Job Title: Registered Nurse - Step Down Profession: RN Step Down Specialty: RN Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:00 PM - 06:30 AM Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Certification Must-Have: Strong critical thinking skills, clinical judgment Description: The Step-Down Unit Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients requiring close monitoring and frequent assessment. Patients in this unit do not meet the criteria for intensive care. The RN is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role requires strong critical thinking skills and the ability to manage complex patient conditions in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide direct patient care for medically complex patients requiring telemetry and specialized interventions. Perform comprehensive assessments, including respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and hemodynamic status. Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and laboratory results. Notify providers of changes in patient condition. Administer medications safely, including IV medications, per physician orders and hospital policy. Manage and care for patients with medical devices such as telemetry monitoring and IV drips. Implement and evaluate individualized patient care plans. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare disciplines to optimize patient outcomes. Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions. Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record. Recognize early signs of patient deterioration and activate care escalation as needed. Adhere to infection prevention protocols, fall precautions, and patient safety standards. May float to other medical/surgical units as needed. The unit serves a wide variety of patients, including those with cardiac issues, neurological conditions, respiratory problems, and post-operative needs.
