Job Title: Registered Nurse Step Down Profession: RN Step Down Specialty: RN Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:00 PM - 06:30 AM Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Certification Must-Have: Strong critical thinking skills Ability to manage complex patient conditions Experience in telemetry and monitoring Description: The Registered Nurse in the Step-Down Unit provides specialized nursing care to patients requiring close monitoring and frequent assessment. Patients in this unit do not meet criteria for intensive care but require higher-level care. The RN is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Key responsibilities include providing direct patient care for medically complex patients requiring telemetry and specialized interventions. Comprehensive assessments will be performed, including evaluations of respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and hemodynamic status. Monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and laboratory results is essential, with timely notification of providers regarding any changes in patient condition. Administering medications safely, including IV medications, according to physician orders and hospital policy is required. The RN will manage and care for patients with various devices, such as telemetry monitoring, IV drips, central lines, PICC lines, and oxygen therapy. Implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care plans are part of the role. Collaboration with various healthcare professionals, including physicians and therapists, is necessary to optimize patient outcomes. Patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions is crucial. Accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record is expected. Recognizing early signs of patient deterioration and activating a rapid response or escalating care as needed is essential. Adhering to infection prevention protocols, fall precautions, and patient safety standards is mandatory. Flexibility to float to other medical/surgical units may be required. This unit serves a wide variety of patients, including those with cardiac, neurological, respiratory, or postoperative conditions.
