Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for the pre-operative patient and to efficiently prepare the surgical patient for the intra-operative procedure. Responsible to assure all nursing documentation, laboratory testing, EKG's and H&P's are complete and in date. Works closely with all staff, anesthesiologist and surgeons provide continuity of care. Prepares each patient in a timely manner, following all hospital policies, procedures and standards of care. Assures that proper communication is given to the appropriate surgical team member for special patient needs. Maintains competent nursing skills to ensure safe quality patient care. The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of Fort Smith Mercy Medical and Mercy Outpatient Surgery Center are followed. Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers; plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs, plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plans and provides professional nursing care for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; and supports the mission of Mercy. Co-workers are expected to abide by safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers. Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiovascular Pre-Op

Schedule: Part-Time, 24 hours/week
Shift: Days (No Weekends or Holidays)

Mercy Hospital Washington is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Cardiovascular Pre-Op team . In this role, you will prepare surgical patients for procedures, ensure all required documentation and testing are complete, provide patient education and emotional support, and collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the perioperative team to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Review patient records to ensure pre-operative readiness.
• Verify completion of H&Ps, consents, laboratory testing, EKGs, and other required documentation.
• Assess and document patients' physical, emotional, and clinical needs.
• Complete nursing documentation in Epic, including assessments, medications, allergies, vital signs, and pre-op checklists.
• Initiate and maintain IV access and administer medications according to policy.
• Provide pre-operative education and emotional support to patients and families.
• Communicate patient needs, delays, and schedule changes with the surgical team and family members.
• Ensure patient safety through verification processes and adherence to infection prevention standards.
• Support efficient patient flow and maintain a well-organized clinical environment.

Qualifications

Required

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current RN license in the state of practice.
• Current CPR certification.
• Strong communication, organizational, and patient care skills.

Preferred

• 1-2 years of hospital or medical-surgical nursing experience.
• Cardiac Telemetry or Critical Care experience is a plus
• ACLS certification.
• Prior perioperative or pre-operative nursing experience.
