Executive Communications Specialist

Job Summary The Executive Communications Specialist is responsible for creating and delivering strategic communication plans for senior executives within a departmental unit. This role involves crafting key messages, speeches, presentations, and other materials to effectively convey the vision, goals, and initiatives to internal and external stakeholders. The specialist may also assist with media relations, crisis communications, and other high‑level communication tasks to enhance the executive's content. Strong writing, editing, and strategic thinking skills are essential for success in this role. Responsibilities Working with executives and other senior‑level leadership to develop, edit, and publish high‑level communications, including talking points, speeches, leadership emails, and official messages. Develop and implement communication strategies that align with organizational goals and support executive visibility; may advise executive on their social media presence. Adept with standard software and operating systems; has proficiency in presentation design and content management systems. Manage projects and processes independently with limited supervision, including collaborating with and reviewing the work of colleagues. Provide communications support for executive programs, initiatives, events, and special working groups; provide subject‑matter expertise in delivering presentations and speeches. Translate ideas, objectives, position, and management philosophy into executive detailed messaging that relates to the topic, speaker, and intended audience. Ensure executive‑level consistency with messaging strategies and brand identity within each published article, speech, and other developed content. Build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse teams across the Institute. May provide communications support outside of regular working hours as needed. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Experience: Four or more years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications: Master's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent. Strategic communication, ghostwriting, change‑management communications, interpersonal, and project management. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Problem solving: Innovative approaches to complex challenges. Independent work: Project management with minimal supervision. Higher education knowledge: Understanding of the Institute's organizational structure and campus culture. Program support: Communication support for executive programs, initiatives, events, and special working groups. Campus news: Writing and editing of campus news announcements and releases on behalf of the executive offices. Advanced knowledge: Deep institutional knowledge gained through experience in higher education and related work. Communications management: Oversight of content for executive newsletters and material preparation for speaking events. Strategy collaboration: Partnership with leadership on communication strategies and initiatives; experience working with and advising senior executives. Cross‑department functional: Collaboration with colleagues in Research Communications, External Communications, Campus News, Special Events, and Strategic Marketing. Soft skills / interpersonal skills: Detail‑oriented. Collaboration skills: Review of colleagues' work and collaboration on message development as needed. Salary range depends on candidate's experiences and skills and ranges from $65,202.00 to $88,937.00.
