Job Summary: The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing along with Wisconsin State Statutes: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN must possess excellent communication skills; be enthusiastic about mentoring and teaching; and participate on committees or projects. Schedule: Days 6am-6pm Week 1: Sunday & Monday Week 2: Saturday Week 3: Sunday, Friday, Saturday Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program Licensed in the state of Wisconsin and in good standing Active BLS Active ACLS or required to obtain within 6 months of hire Responsibilities include: Provides skilled nursing care in accordance with Nurse Practice acts. Followsthe Standards of Nursing Care as well as the Nursing Process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation while delivering high quality patient care. Performs and documents, timely and accurate patient assessments as outlined in Nursing Standards of Care Provides and documents patient care as outlined in the Nursing Standards of Care Plans, implements, and documents a focused care plan with goals for each patient. Evaluates patient progress toward goals. Participates in the interdisciplinary plan of care. Implements and completes clinician orders accurately and in a timely manner. Demonstrates quality by administering medications based on nursing standards and OMC policy. Continually strives to exceed patient experience standards in all interactions with customers, which includes patients, visitors, organization team members, and medical staff Demonstrates a team/collaborative approach with colleagues. Helps and supports co-workers and clinicians. Helps and supports patients and their families. Demonstrates critical thinking skills. Anticipates patient needs. Prioritizes patient care based on individual, departmental, and overall hospital patient needs. Initiates appropriate interventions in a timely manner. Personal accountability to stay up to date on all communication. Communicates accurate, concise end of shift patient report. Communicate effectively with all members of the patient care team. Communicates patient status and plan of care with patients and their family. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of current nursing practices and technical skills Provide age appropriate and culturally appropriate care Skilled in use of basic patient care equipment and supplies Demonstrate and maintain required competencies Administer medications as required by WI State Nursing guidelines Maintain timely and accurate documentation via facility policy and procedure Knowledge of infection control practices and their relation to patient care outcomes Accuracy and attention to detail in performing all job duties Assess multiple systems, develop plans of care, provide intervention and education, and assess outcomes of patient care Ensure that all orders are carried out timely Delegate to appropriate care team members Develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, family members and team members across the organization Timely reporting of any safety events and near miss events Communicate clearly and respectfully Participate in department or organization quality improvement projects Participate in the orientation process of new staff Physical Requirements for the Role: Mobility & Stamina: Walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching (above shoulders and below waist) throughout the shift. Strength & Lifting: Ability to lift, pull, push, and support at least 25–50 pounds, such as moving equipment, repositioning patients, or assisting with ambulation. Fine Motor Skills: Precise hand-eye coordination for tasks like handling syringes, inserting catheters, manipulating small equipment, and typing. Endurance: Ability to sustain repetitive movements (e.g., CPR) and maintain physical stamina for long shifts, often running between 8 and 12 hours. Sensory Abilities: Visual acuity (including color vision) and hearing to assess patients, monitor equipment, and hear alarms. The med/surg unit is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with high emotional intensity where you will care for patients with diverse, complex, and rapidly changing conditions. The workload can be heavy, so we focus on creating a multi-disciplinary, team-oriented environment to ensure patient centered care. There is the potential for exposure to infectious patients, harmful physical agents, and hazardous or toxic substances.
