Program Director of Family Medicine Residency - Physician - Mount Sinai South Nassau - Oceanside, NY

Overview Mount Sinai South Nassau seeks a Family Physician Residency Program Director in Long Island, NY. The Program Director will lead the ACGME‑accredited Family Medicine Residency program while maintaining clinical practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The ideal candidate has proven academic excellence, strong clinical and leadership skills, and is knowledgeable of ACGME policies, procedures, and program requirements. Responsibilities Participate in all phases of maintaining ACGME standards. Oversee the programmatic and curriculum development. Communicate the mission of the residency throughout the hospital and community served. Attend the ISMSS GME Affiliation Committee and other applicable meetings, forging strong institutional working relationships. Organize and implement residency recruitment strategies. Serve as faculty for the ACGME Family Medicine Residency Program. Maintain clinical practice, including inpatient and outpatient care of adults and children, as well as prenatal care. (Intrapartum care and deliveries are not required but preferred.) Ensure a safe learning environment that promotes wellness. Expectations Maintain a clear program plan. Conduct the program, including the rotation of residents to ensure that each resident is advancing and gaining experience and responsibility in accordance with the educational plan. Conduct an annual review of the program to assess the quality of the educational experience and the resources available. Establish mechanisms to provide career planning and counseling for residents and address problems such as psychological stress. Select candidates for admission in accordance with ISMMS and MSSN policies. Assess performance of each resident through a well‑organized program of in‑training evaluation, including the final evaluation at the end of the program as required by the ACGME. Maintain an appeal mechanism for resident grievances. Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff at primary teaching institutions and additional participating sites. Gather and report complete and accurate information to accrediting, licensure, certification, and funding agencies. Assure compliance with institutional and accrediting agency requirements; obtain approval from the GMEC before implementing major programmatic changes. Develop and implement program policies compatible with accreditation and institutional requirements, covering duty hours, supervision, moonlighting, leave, selection, grievance, and promotion/dismissal. Participate in orientation and regular meetings with the parent program director or the DIO for core program directors. Participate in the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) as a member. Participate in scholarship as defined by the ACGME Common Requirements. Comply with all duties specified in the ACGME common and specialty‑specific training requirements. Regularly assess and promote resident and faculty well‑being. Participate in Performance Improvement and Patient Safety teaching and activities. Clinical Responsibilities Care for patients of all ages. Serve as inpatient teaching attending for the Family Medicine team. Provide direct office care of patients. Precept Family Medicine residents in the office. Qualifications MD or DO. Board certified in Family Medicine. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Graduate Medical Education. Maintains up‑to‑date credentials including CV, license, DEA, CDS, board certification, and hospital admitting privileges. Maintains CME credit hours required for board certification and/or hospital staff privileges. Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, mentoring, and teaching skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Team‑oriented and collaborative. Strong orientation toward high‑quality, cost‑effective, comprehensive medical care. Courteous, caring, respectful, and compassionate; listens and responds non‑judgmentally. Track record of scholarly activity, including publications and presentations. Represents the organization positively. Respects patient confidentiality at all times. Honors commitments to the job and coworkers. Speaks constructively about co‑workers and the organization. Compensation Salary range: $235,000 to $235,000 (not including bonuses, incentive compensation, or benefits). Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, historical productivity, historical collections, and hospital/community need.
