Staff Accountant

Our client is a St. Louis‑based nonprofit with a 150+ year history of serving children and families through community‑based programs. Their mission has remained constant, and their commitment to building strong operations to support that mission is what drives this hire. The Role Our client is adding a Staff Accountant to strengthen their accounting function. This is a newly created position that reports directly to the CFO and will have regular exposure to senior leadership, including the CEO. This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused role. You will own journal entries, reconciliations, and the integrity of the general ledger as part of the monthly close cycle. The right person is detail‑driven, self‑directed, and takes pride in producing clean, supportable work. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation Perform bank and cash reconciliations Maintain balance sheet account reconciliations and supporting schedules tied to the GL Support the monthly close process, including adherence to timelines and checklists Assist with audit preparation, including PBC requests and schedules Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data in the general ledger Required Qualifications Experience in preparing and posting journal entries 3–5 years of accounting experience, including general ledger and month‑end close support Strong understanding of debits and credits Experience preparing or supporting balance sheet reconciliations Detail‑oriented with a high standard for accuracy and organization Ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks Preferred (Not Required) Experience in a nonprofit environment Experience supporting audits Familiarity with Sage Intacct or a similar ERP What They’re Looking For This role is a fit if you’re a disciplined accountant who is comfortable in the details—someone who works well in the GL, reconciles accounts with confidence, and consistently meets deadlines.
