Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Montana State Hospital provides essential support to residents by assisting with daily living activities, basic hygiene, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection, and emergency assistance. This role requires strong communication, observation, and reporting skills, with a focus on mental health care in a psychiatric facility environment. Candidates must have relevant experience and appropriate certification to ensure high-quality resident care and safety. Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with daily living activities including bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, and mobility.
• Take and record vital signs and collect specimens as required.
• Support residents during transport to appointments and assist as needed.
• Provide assistance in emergency situations following established protocols.
• Maintain accurate observations and communicate resident status to healthcare team members.
• Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents and staff.
• Follow explicit oral and written instructions related to resident care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience working in a psychiatric facility.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Competency in making accurate observations and reporting them appropriately.
• Experience working in mental health settings such as state hospitals or psychiatric facilities.
• Basic knowledge of personal hygiene care.
• Completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification is highly desired.
• At least 1 year of travel contract experience preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPI certification for de-escalation and crisis intervention.
• Experience in geriatric care within nursing homes or long-term care facilities (minimum 5 years if background is solely geriatric).
• Emergency or urgent care experience (minimum 4 years if applicable).
• BLS certification.
• Driver's license for transport duties.

Special Considerations:

• Must be highly skilled in de-escalation techniques.
• Experience required in adult psychiatric facilities.
• Flexible to work in a float pool environment with open shift availability.
• Ability to work holidays and varied shifts as assigned.
• Candidate must provide prescreen form, resume, references, skills checklist, state certification/licensure, BLS, CPI (if obtained), and driver's license upon submission.

Scheduling:

• Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
• Open shift availability and flexibility with facility scheduling required.
• Assignments may involve travel with a minimum of 1-2 years travel experience preferred.
