Description
Title: Psychosocial Coordinator
Department: Psychosocial
Reports To: Lead Psychosocial Coordinator
Direct Reports: None
Location: Hybrid: Living onsite at camp in Mt. Gilead, OH during camp sessions + remote flexibility in off season
Employment Type: Year-round, full-time, exempt
Salary: $50,000-$55,000 annually
Overview: As the Psychosocial Coordinator, you’ll help campers and families feel seen, supported, and prepared for their camp experience. Through compassionate communication, trauma-informed practices, and strong relationships, you’ll help create an environment where every camper can experience belonging, connection, and joy. You’ll partner closely with families, volunteers, and staff to understand each camper’s unique strengths, needs, and goals and help ensure they can fully participate in camp. Your work will span the camper journey—from preparation and planning before camp through support during camp and follow-up afterward.
Your Impact: This role exists to help create the conditions for every camper to safely and meaningfully participate in the camp experience. Using psychosocial assessment, behavioral insight, sound judgment, and a strengths-based approach, you’ll help identify and respond to campers’ mental health, behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs. You’ll collaborate across departments to develop individualized supports and adaptations while balancing the needs of individual campers with the well-being of their cabin groups and the broader camp community.
Flying Horse Farms is a place where your work connects directly to something meaningful. Together, we create medically-safe camp experiences where kids with serious illnesses can find hope, joy, and belonging—always at no cost.
It takes every role, every team, and an all-in commitment to make the mission possible.
What You'll Do:
- Support campers and families before, during, and after camp by identifying psychosocial, behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs and helping develop individualized support plans.
- Conduct camper psychosocial screenings and contribute to camper placement and clearing processes, including communication and follow-up with families.
- Partner with Camp Operations and other departments to plan and implement adaptations that help campers safely and successfully participate in camp.
- Support proactive and responsive behavior strategies that promote camper safety, emotional well-being, inclusion, and engagement.
- Help lead psychosocial programming and support the effective use of sensory spaces and other resources that promote camper success.
- Train, prepare, and support seasonal staff and volunteers in psychosocial care, Trauma-Informed Care, and FHF’s Behavior Support Model.
- Provide psychosocial expertise during camp emergencies and collaborate with camp leadership and the Psychosocial Team when significant behavioral or emotional concerns arise.
- Communicate thoughtfully with families and staff about relevant psychosocial needs, support strategies, and camper progress.
- Maintain accurate camper and staff information, prepare psychosocial resources and supplies, and contribute to overall camp readiness.
- Participate in team meetings, debriefs, and continuous improvement efforts that strengthen psychosocial safety, care, and the overall camper experience.
- Live on-site and actively support the camp community during all summer and weekend camp sessions.

Flying Horse Farms (FHF) makes it possible for kids with serious illnesses to heal, grow, and thrive – at no cost to families. Located on 200 acres in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, camp first opened its gates in 2010 and hosts ~1,000 children and families each year.
FHF is the first camp in the Midwest to become a full member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network. Founded in 1988 by actor, philanthropist and Ohio native Paul Newman, the Network is a community of independently managed and financed camps and programs creating opportunities for children with serious illnesses and their families.
At FHF, for a weekend or week at a time, kids focus on the joy and freedom of simply being a kid, and with safety being the number one priority, fun is a close second. Campers receive high-quality care at our on-site health center, staffed 24/7 by clinicians from children’s hospitals across Ohio and beyond.
