Job Title: Manufacturing Operator Job Description

The Manufacturing Operator works in a pharmaceutical-style compression area, setting up, operating, and cleaning tablet compression equipment to produce pills and natural supplements in compliance with GMP and SOP requirements. This role involves hands-on machine operation, frequent quality checks, and detailed documentation to ensure products meet strict quality and safety standards throughout each batch.

• Report to the production lead at the start of the shift and receive daily assignments for machine setup, operation, and cleaning.
• Set up cleaning equipment and compression machines prior to each batch, ensuring all components are correctly installed and ready for use.
• Ensure the tablet press is thoroughly cleaned and properly set up before starting each batch, following established procedures and checklists.
• Fill hoppers with powder using stainless steel scoops and feed material into compression machines to produce tablets.
• Perform ongoing machine operation tasks, including starting, monitoring, and adjusting the compression process as needed.
• Move drums of product and materials around the compression area approximately every 15 minutes, following safe material handling practices.
• Conduct regular in-process quality checks on tablets every 15 to 30 minutes to verify uniformity, hardness, thickness, and weight.
• Use instruments such as hardness testers and thickness gauges to measure tablet properties and document results in real time.
• Check tablet weights, hardness, and size, and adjust machine settings when necessary to maintain adherence to batch instructions and documentation.
• Label drums filled with tablets accurately and clearly, ensuring traceability and compliance with documentation requirements.
• Clean and lubricate tablet presses, including installing and removing punches and dies, in accordance with GMP and sanitation procedures.
• Maintain strict sanitation practices at all times and consistently follow GMP guidelines and SOPs.
• Conduct friability tests on all products to confirm tablets meet durability and quality standards.
• Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout SOPs, when working with machinery and equipment.
• Perform cleaning between batches using approved cleaning solutions such as 70% IPA, and transport removable parts to the washroom for thorough cleaning.
• Complete all documentation accurately and in real time, ensuring that records are detailed, legible, and compliant with QA expectations.
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment while maintaining high attention to detail and product quality.
• Collaborate with team members, communicate proactively, and contribute to a supportive, teamwork-focused environment.
• Support other departments as assigned, providing assistance with related manufacturing or compounding tasks when needed.
• Accomplish all other tasks as assigned by supervision in alignment with production, quality, and safety goals.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and consistent adherence to SOPs in a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience in manufacturing operations such as compression, wet granulation, compounding, or similar production processes.
• Proficiency in machine operating and machine operation within a production or compounding environment.
• Ability to perform real-time documentation and QA-related recordkeeping, ensuring accuracy and completeness during production.
• Strong attention to detail when performing quality checks, documenting results, and following batch instructions.
• Capability to work at a fast pace while maintaining quality standards and compliance with procedures.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks including pulling, lifting, scooping powder, and loading hoppers.
• Comfort with heavy, manual work in a less automated environment, including handling drums and multiple scoops of powder.
• Understanding of basic safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and proper use of PPE.
• Ability to follow detailed checklists and instructions for equipment setup, cleaning, and operation.

• Experience in a pharmaceutical, food, medical device, or other FDA-regulated manufacturing environment.
• Background working in compression areas or wet granulation processes, such as using large mixers similar to industrial kitchen equipment.
• Familiarity with quality control testing tools, including hardness testers and thickness gauges for tablet inspection.
• Experience working with metrics-driven production environments and meeting throughput and quality targets.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a proactive approach to supporting colleagues and resolving issues.
• Good documentation skills with prior QA experience, particularly in paper-based, real-time recording systems.
• Ability to adapt to varying powder densities and process variations while maintaining consistent product quality.
• Reliability and strong attendance habits, consistently arriving on time and ready to work each scheduled shift.

Work takes place primarily in the compression area, where powders are manually scooped and loaded into compression machines that press out tablets. The environment is hands-on and not highly automated, with frequent lifting, standing, and movement of drums and materials. Cleaning is performed between batches using non-toxic solutions such as 70% IPA, and removable parts are taken to a washroom for thorough cleaning. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and expected to be worn as required. The facility operates under strict GMP and SOP guidelines, with a strong emphasis on sanitation, documentation, and safety procedures, including lockout/tagout. Work is conducted in a fast-paced, metric-driven setting where attention to detail and adherence to quality standards are essential.

This is a Contract position based out of Hayward, CA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
