The position is responsible for providing advanced life support for critically ill/injured patients at the scene or inter‑hospital facility as part of an air transport team, under the stresses of flight and hazardous environmental conditions. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law. Responsibilities Evaluate the scene of an accident; triage patients and provide advanced life support and critical care. Assist with locating and establishing a landing zone for the aircraft. Provide and oversee direct patient care assessing and evaluating actual or potential health problems both while the patient is being extricated and during transport. Plan, evaluate and implement interventions for solving patient care problems according to needs and established guidelines. Transfer patients and equipment from aircraft, cart and gurney during the loading and unloading transport operations. Provide written support documentation for transports. Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment. Train and assist new staff either at the scene or an inter‑hospital facility. Provide in‑patient IV services as required. Perform daily equipment checklist with documentation. Transport controlled substances, as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above. Ability to complete and pass annual fit for duty evaluation to meet the required technical working conditions of the position. Ability to provide care to the population served. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development, and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual. Ability to maintain all organizational and departmental‑level required trainings by expected due dates, as outlined by the educational plan and policy. Demonstrated knowledge and use of a variety of all medical and aircraft equipment to include: ProPaqs, Infusion Pump, Glidescope, Zoll, transport ventilators and other miscellaneous tools used in transport operations. Demonstrated competency with a variety of equipment. Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations. Ability to attend at least 50% of staff meetings in person (on duty is considered in person), with 100% compliance on video tape meetings with follow up test. Ability to function during regularly scheduled, 12 hour, extended or alternative shifts. Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations dealing with death, multiple patients, family members, etc. Ability to deal with the hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients. Ability to maintain a weight less than 215 lbs. in a flight uniform at all times. Ability to lift and carry various weight and diameters of equipment. Qualifications Required Five (5) years of experience in critical care transport or EMS. Weight of less than 215 lbs. fully dressed for flight duty. Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) or Burn Education equivalent within one (1) year of hire. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or Advanced Trauma course equivalent within one (1) year of hire. FP‑C (Flight Paramedic Certification) or CCP‑C (Critical Care Paramedic Certification) within one (1) year of hire. Maintenance of continuing education related to transport‑specific CAMTS requirements (Advanced‑airway, Altitude physiology, transport equipment, highway scene safety, EMS, multi trauma, pediatric critical care and quality management). Licenses Required Current RQI Healthcare Provider ALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The ALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire. Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire. Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah. Certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Wyoming within 90 days of hire. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire. Current RQI Healthcare Provider PALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The PALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire. One of the following Critical Care Paramedic Certification issued through The International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC). Flight Paramedic Certification issued through The International Board of Specialty Certifications (IBSC). Working Conditions and Physical Demands This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. To ensure that the employee can meet the essential functions as well as the technical working conditions and physical demands, the employee must annually complete a fit‑for‑duty assessment conducted by an occupational health physician in the employee wellness center.
