Filling Machine Operator

The Filling Line Operator works closely with the department lead and cross-functional facility teams to monitor and operate the filling line, perform quality checks on all products, and ensure smooth, uninterrupted production. This role sets up, operates, and makes minor adjustments to automated filling and packaging equipment while maintaining accurate production records, supporting inventory control, and upholding strict safety, quality, and cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor the incoming quality of containers and maintain adequate container supply at each line to ensure uninterrupted filling line operation.
• Set up, calibrate, and properly operate automatic filling machines, verifying batch tickets for correct product and monitoring fill weights and container appearance, including preventing drips and defects.
• Retain product samples for the control lab in accordance with established procedures.
• Operate and monitor the lid dropper, ensuring an adequate supply of lids, proper sealing on containers, and that lid information is legible and correct for the product being filled.
• Operate the label machine, ensuring an adequate quantity of correct labels and adhesive, and monitor the quality and appearance of labels and containers.
• Maintain proper operation of the bail-o-matic machine and perform minor adjustments as needed to support continuous production.
• Operate the case packer, ensuring an adequate supply of cartons and tape, and verify that carton information is legible and correct for the product being filled.
• Supply empty pallets to the palletizer and safely offload full pallets as appropriate to maintain production flow.
• Accurately count filled products and input data into electronic terminals for inventory control using company information systems.
• Inspect and maintain forklifts and related equipment by checking batteries, electrical hook-ups, and other basic condition checks.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines and use all required personal protective equipment as directed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and quality-focused work area, supporting overall facility cleanliness standards.
• Collaborate with team members across departments to resolve issues, support production goals, and ensure smooth line operation.
• Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and perform minor adjustments to maintain efficient and safe operation of the filling line and associated machinery.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support production, quality, and safety objectives.

Essential Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic math skills, including addition and subtraction, to support accurate measurements and counts.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate cross-functionally with other departments.
• Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, product quality, and cleanliness.
• Ability to use company software and computer system programs to enter production and inventory data.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate with coworkers and leadership.
• Ability to work safely, follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), and adhere to safety and environmental guidelines.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime (up to 4 hours beyond the regular shift) and weekends when required.
• Ability to operate fill-by-weight machines, video jet printers, labelers, palletizers, case packers, can and carton computers, and de-palletizers.
• Ability to operate production tower equipment independently.
• Ability to independently operate gallon and quart production lines.
• Ability to independently operate gallon line case-packers and five-line equipment.
• Ability to operate a gallon line and manage small batch operations.
• Ability to use a forklift, winch, and trolley system safely and effectively.
• Capability to run the filling line and package goods for extended periods (upwards of 8 hours per day).

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in machine operation within a production or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to set up production machinery and prepare equipment for operation.
• Basic troubleshooting skills to identify and address minor mechanical or operational issues.
• Experience using hand tools for minor adjustments and equipment maintenance.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure for accurate measurements.
• Previous experience with filling machines and related packaging equipment.
• Comfort working around industrial machinery and automated equipment in a processing plant.

Work Environment:

This role is based in a paint processing plant that uses liquid filler equipment and various types of industrial machinery. The environment includes typical paint-related odors and is structured to operate as a safe, well-controlled production facility. You will work around automated filling lines, labelers, case packers, palletizers, and other industrial equipment for most of the shift, with running the filling line and packaging goods being a frequent activity that can extend up to 8 hours per day. The production team typically consists of about 30 employees on the day shift and 20 employees on the second shift, fostering a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere focused on safety, quality, and efficiency.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesquite, TX.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $19.60 - $23.95/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
