The Office of Judicial Administration is responsible for the efficient administration of all agencies that operate under the direction of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court. That includes 200 personnel; fiscal management; communication; technology; legal services; intergovernmental relations; services for the trial courts; and support for court boards, commissions, and committees. The Office is headed by Interim Chief Administrative Officer Aaron Hood, who reports directly to the Chief Justice of Indiana and serves as the link between the Chief Justice and the agencies of the Court.
Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800 but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:
A Youth Justice Strategist supports counties in system improvement to achieve state-level results at all points of involvement, from prevention through reintegration. Indiana’s youth justice system improvement efforts are implemented using the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) model and guided by the Youth Justice Oversight Committee (YJOC), established by I. C. 2-5-36-9.3. A Strategist must have sufficient knowledge of the youth justice system, best-practices, and research-based interventions, as well as understanding of using data for performance monitoring, policy development, and application to system operations. A Strategist must be able to effectively synthesize information and facilitate discussions to guide policy and practice review and system reform activities. A Strategist works independently and directly with county stakeholder groups, with a team on recurring activities and time-limited projects, and with state-level groups and committees of JDAI and the YJOC. Planning, implementing, and monitoring system improvement efforts is iterative and evolving, requiring flexibility and adaptive responses.
A Day in the Life:
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Provide technical assistance to counties for assessment, analysis, planning, and implementation of youth justice system improvement efforts
Serve as a resource to counties and state-level groups in planning and implementing strategies for youth justice system improvement, including legislative requirements, policy, evidence-based practices, Supreme Court initiatives, and intersections with the child welfare system and problem-solving courts
Apply strong critical thinking skills to independently assess, synthesize, and analyze information from a variety of sources in inform meaningful technical assistance to counties
Participate in county and state-level meetings, both in person and virtually; extensive travel, including some overnights, is required
Assist with state-level data collection policy and analysis to identify focus areas and monitor changes in local youth justice system reform work, including strategies to promote equity
Provide technical assistance to counties regarding youth justice system collection, analysis, reporting, and use of data
Prepare reports, documents, and data visualizations, and present using audience-centered methods to inform, guide, and action-plan regarding youth justice system improvement tasks and activities
Utilize a range of software/applications to visualize and analyze data for presentation and to promote strong data quality
Provide support and guidance related to grant applications and grant management, including meeting performance measures
Provide staff support to Judicial Conference Committees and state-level groups and committees related to youth-focused initiatives
Assist in planning and execution of in-person and virtual training and conferences
Perform additional duties as assigned

Communicate effectively and respectfully with team members, supervisors, and staff in other divisions of the Office of Judicial Administration
Communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
Adaptability/Flexibility
Understand the evolving nature of youth justice system improvement and necessity of continuous learning to maintain expertise
Ability to regularly and frequently travel within Indiana for county meetings and events
Technology and Tool Usage
- Learn and use new technologies within the Microsoft Suite, Supreme Court systems, and data visualization software
