CNC Programmer (Aerospace Defense Sector)

We are seeking an analytical, career-minded Lead CNC Programmer & Machinist to provide technical expertise to our engineering and production departments. Operating within an FAA/EASA Part 145 Repair Station environment, this role is essential for developing repair processes, manufacturing fixtures, and overseeing component manufacturing for both commercial and military aircraft platforms around the world.

Qualifications and Skills

• Experience: At least 5 years of relevant CNC machining and programming experience, with a preferred background of 3+ years specifically within an aerospace MRO repair station, manufacturing engineering, or tooling design environment.

• Technical Programming: Proven capability creating, revising, and optimizing CNC programs utilizing CAD/CAM software (GibbsCAM, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent). Experience with CMM programming (PC-DMIS) and dimensional inspection techniques is highly desirable.

• Machining Depth: Complete competence setting up, proving out, and operating 3-to-4 axis mills, turning centers, lathes, mill/turns, and EDM machinery.

• Engineering Know-How: Deep knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), blueprint interpretation, technical drawing analysis, and 3D modeling to design custom fixtures applicable to the repair process.

• Reasoning & Math: Excellent use of logic, reasoning, and basic shop mathematics to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, troubleshoot mechanical variances, and handle complex variables.

• Interpersonal & Leadership: A collaborative communicator who works well with multidisciplinary departments and possesses the capability to provide training and work leadership to junior-level associates.

• Physical Stamina: Manual dexterity and physical stamina to mount, align, and secure tooling; frequently stand, walk, and sit in a shop environment; and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

• Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school (apprenticeship or formal technical training is a plus).

Responsibilities

• CNC & CMM Programming: Create, validate, and optimize highly efficient CNC machining and CMM inspection programs from engineering drawings or CAD models to support aerospace component repair and manufacturing applications.

• Machining Operations: Program, set up, and operate production CNC machinery (mills, lathes, mill/turns, EDM), carefully adjusting machine controls, feeds, speeds, and securing workpieces.

• Process Development & Optimization: Develop precision repair processes in accordance with component maintenance manuals, customer requirements, or technical blueprints; recommend strategic changes in equipment, materials, and procedures to maximize efficiency.

• Fixture & Tooling Design: Utilize 3D modeling software to design and manufacture custom tooling and specialized work-holding fixtures required for new product development and unique repair methods.

• Quality & Inspection: Perform precision measurements using advanced shop instruments to support First Article Inspections (FAI), dimensional investigations, and root cause analysis activities.

• Team Leadership: Provide tasks, technical guidance, and work leadership to lower-level associates, assisting with problem-solving and troubleshooting on the manufacturing floor.

• Cross-Functional Coordination: Partner closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production departments to resolve technical machining issues
