Youth Services Coordinator

Job Title

Work involves a shared responsibility of planning, organizing and directing particular aspects of the King Center's After School and Summer Day Camp program from a holistic perspective to prepare youth ages five through twenty-one for post-secondary goals and careers. Services include and are not limited to academic enrichment, work experience, job coaching, family liaison and recreation for youth and their families. Initially, work is performed under the close supervision of the Youth Services Manager, but as the employee gains experience, work is performed with considerable independence. Work is reviewed through evaluations and observation of program results.

Examples Of Duties

Oversees and acts as contact person while program is in session. Supervises staff, volunteers, and program participants. Organizes, schedules, and coordinates some special activities. Organizes, supervises, and participates in youth programs. Provides daily tutorial assistance to program participants. Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations. Answers questions and provides program information.

Typical Qualifications

Graduation from high school (or GED) supplemented by an associate's degree in education or related field; experience in participating in or directing youth activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience in participating in or directing youth activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of organized youth activities. Knowledge of the need of disadvantaged, low income groups. Knowledge of the principles and methods of activity planning, development, implementation, and scheduling. Ability to maintain and inspire a high energy level during programming. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups. Ability to comprehend complex human problems and to devise appropriate solutions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other human services agencies, and the general public. Ability to supervise the work of staff, volunteers and program participants. Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing. Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and internet navigation.

Supplemental Information

Must successfully pass a background check and a substance screening. Possession of a valid Class "D" Illinois driver's license or an equivalent license from the employee's state of residence.
