Assistant United States Attorney (Criminal)

Summary Open- continuous announcement for Assistant United States Attorneys in the Criminal Division of the Middle District of Georgia's Macon, GA and Columbus, GA offices. This announcement will remain open until all available positions are filled. Responsibilities Assist the United States Attorney's Office in prosecuting white-collar crimes, immigration crimes, drug trafficking crimes, and crimes of violence, including child exploitation offenses. The role requires strong leadership, a solid work ethic, excellent organizational and negotiation skills, careful analysis of complex legal and factual issues, clear and persuasive writing, and representation of the Government's interests at hearings and trials before the United States District Court. Responsibilities and assignments will increase in complexity as experience grows. Requirements Initial appointment conditioned upon satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment subject to favorable background investigation. Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Male applicants born after Dec. 31, 1959 must certify registration with the Selective Service System. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must possess a J.D. degree (or equivalent) and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) by entry on duty date. Applicants who are current or former political appointees (Schedule A, C or non-career SES in the Executive Branch within the last five years) must disclose this information to the HR Office; failure to disclose may result in disciplinary action. Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, support staff, and client agencies in a demanding work environment. Education Applicants must possess a J.D. degree by the entry on duty date. Salary and Benefits Assistant United States Attorney pay is administratively determined based on years of professional attorney experience. Basic pay range: $65,563 to $153,834 plus locality pay of 17.06% for the Macon office and 23.79% for the Columbus office. The Department of Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, telework, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System. Relocation expenses will not be authorized. Travel 1 to 5 nights of travel required per month.
