Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Critical Care

Advance your emergency and critical care career at SAGE San Francisco. As a Critical Care Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), you'll work alongside board-certified specialists and emergency veterinarians providing advanced nursing care for critically ill, unstable, and hospitalized patients.

SAGE San Francisco is a premier specialty and emergency veterinary hospital providing advanced care through a collaborative team of board-certified specialists, emergency veterinarians, RVTs, Veterinary Assistants, and support professionals.

Our Critical Care Unit provides exposure to complex cases, advanced medical technology, and intensive patient management while offering mentorship, continuing education, and opportunities to pursue advanced credentials such as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS).

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Provide advanced nursing care and continuous monitoring for critically ill and hospitalized patients.
• Triage and assess emergency patients and quickly communicate changes in patient condition.
• Assist veterinarians with diagnostics, treatments, emergency procedures, and patient stabilization.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and continuous rate infusions (CRIs).
• Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, and in-house laboratory testing.
• Induce, monitor, and recover patients undergoing sedation and anesthesia.
• Maintain detailed treatment sheets, electronic medical records, and patient monitoring documentation.
• Participate in patient rounds and communicate critical information across shifts.
• Collaborate with Critical Care, Emergency, and Specialty teams to provide exceptional patient care.

What you bring:

• Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license required.
• Veterinary Technician experience in Critical Care, ICU, Emergency, or Specialty medicine strongly preferred.
• Strong technical skills including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication calculations, CRIs, and advanced patient monitoring.
• Experience with veterinary anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring.
• Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities with the ability to recognize changes in patient status.
• Excellent communication, organization, and client service skills.
• Ability to remain calm and effective while managing complex and critically ill patients.

Compensation & Schedule:

• Up to $40.00/hour, based on experience and technical skill set
• $7,000 Sign-On Bonus
• $5.50/hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM
• SundayWednesday | 12:00 PM2:00 AM
• Full-time swing shift
