This position will lead quality activities within a growing manufacturing and machining environment while working closely with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers. This position will lead quality activities within a growing manufacturing and machining environment while working closely with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on quality leader who is comfortable working on the production floor, leading quality initiatives, troubleshooting problems, and developing a strong culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct quality activities within a high-volume manufacturing and machining environment.
- Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
- Develop sampling procedures and methods for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
- Establish programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of production, testing, measurement, and analytical equipment.
- Develop and implement methods for dispositioning discrepant material and assessing cost and responsibility.
- Direct and support quality personnel engaged in measuring and testing products and processes.
- Work closely with engineering regarding quality assurance of new products and existing manufactured products.
- Perform visual, dimensional, and process inspections to determine conformance to customer and quality requirements.
- Perform physical inspection of contract material.
- Audit and check parts, processes, inventory, and paperwork for in-process and completed parts.
- Ensure fabricated and machined products meet customer specifications.
- Facilitate containment activities with production personnel when defects or high-risk defects are identified.
- Participate in customer and supplier complaint resolution, containment, and corrective action.
- Complete PPAPs and PPAP documentation from start to finish.
- Develop and maintain PFMEAs.
- Perform SPC reviews and utilize statistical process control to identify and address quality issues.
- Ensure inspection and measurement equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
- Operate and program CMM equipment to support dimensional inspection and quality verification.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Enter, monitor, and maintain ERP/QMS data related to work order completion, inventory movement, defect containment, rework creation and closure, and other quality activities.
- Record inspection results and reject product when parts do not meet acceptable limits.
- Identify opportunities for improvement within quality-control processes and work toward reducing scrap and improving customer satisfaction.
- Develop training materials and conduct training sessions on quality-control activities.
- Build and lead a positive, productive quality culture focused on accountability, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
- Work directly with production personnel and quality team members to identify problems and drive solutions.
- Lead and delegate quality activities while maintaining a hands-on presence within the manufacturing operation.
- Support new product development and introduction as the company continues to grow and add new customers and parts.
- Help manage internal and supplier quality issues while supporting audits, documentation, and non-conformance review.
- Work with urgency and take ownership of quality issues through resolution.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in Quality Management in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external parties and direct the quality team as needed to accomplish goals and tasks.
- Detail oriented, strong time management, and self-starter mentality.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing and GD&T.
- Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Ability to use inspection, testing equipment, and measurement instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of IATF 16949 or ISO quality procedures.
- Experience with quality audits and technical documentation.
- Experience running PPAPs from start to finish.
- Experience with PFMEA.
- Experience with CMM equipment and CMM interpretation.
- Manufacturing and machining experience.
- Ability to work effectively in an active production environment and be comfortable getting hands-on when needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively, delegate responsibilities, and lead a quality team.
- Ability to work with urgency and proactively identify and resolve problems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- 8+ years of quality or manufacturing experience.
- Candidates with significant hands-on experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Strongly preferred: Experience setting up and programming CMMs, particularly Hexagon/PC-DMIS.
- Experience taking a part, reviewing work instructions, and programming a CMM to measure the part rather than simply operating a pre-programmed CMM.
- Experience with HAAS and Okuma mills and lathes.
- Strong machining background, particularly within an automotive or automotive-supplier environment.
- Experience with robotics and PLCs.
- Understanding of pressure testing.
- Lean manufacturing experience and a continuous-improvement mindset.
- Lean Six Sigma, Green Belt, or Black Belt certification.
- Experience supporting automotive, heavy truck, or industrial manufacturing customers.
- Experience working with ERP/QMS systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting new product introduction and new customer launches.
- Experience with supplier quality, customer complaints, containment, and corrective action.
- $100K-$110K base salary, depending on experience.
