Job Description – Community Engagement Manager Mission: Missoula Food Bank & Community Center’s (MFB&CC) mission is to lead the movement to end hunger through advocacy, volunteerism, and healthy food for all. We nourish community. We are a private, non‑profit organization with a 43‑year history of filling the hunger gap in Missoula County. In 2025, we served 1 in 5 people countywide. MFB&CC pursues our mission through direct nutrition programs and through advocacy efforts that impact the upstream causal issues of food insecurity. We have been carrying out this model of service since 1982 and take tremendous pride in the diverse network of support that keeps our community nourished, our food service programs effective, and our organization healthy. Position Overview Full‑time, exempt position reporting to the organization’s Director of Operations. Compensation: $28.35 an hour. Hours: Monday‑Friday 8 am‑4 pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. Preferred Qualifications Managerial experience in a related field. Two years of work experience in a non‑profit organization, retail environment, or closely related direct‑service operation. Familiarity with anti‑poverty work. Requirements Work collaboratively within a team environment and have a willingness to assist other co‑workers and volunteers. Strong oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of people including staff, volunteers, customers, vendors, donors, social service agencies, businesses and the general public. Ability to grow and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups of volunteers, coworkers and community members. Demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detail while managing a wide range of tasks and responsibilities, including multitasking, prioritizing and delegating work as necessary. Be self‑motivated, self‑directed, and take initiative in performing a wide variety of tasks in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment. Be open‑minded and flexible with regard to the work performed. Exercise safe workplace policies and procedures and effectively communicate adherence of policies to volunteers and other staff. Demonstrate trauma‑informed, effective communication with children and caregivers. Proficiency in common computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; willingness to become proficient in specialized software including Salesforce and Johnnie. Stand and/or walk for long periods of time; bend, twist, kneel and stoop; pull, push or carry heavy objects, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation. Maintain compliance with federal programming. Work within a range of temperature‑controlled environments, including but not limited to handling cold or frozen items and retrieving items from walk‑in coolers and freezers. Obtain ServSafe and CPR/AED certification within 3 months of being hired and adhere to safe food handling practices. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and demonstrate ability to drive all MFB&CC vehicles safely. Willingness and ability to learn to operate a pallet jack safely. Criminal background checks are required. Job Responsibilities EmPower Place: Work directly with community partners, including, but not limited to, spectrUM Discovery Area and Missoula Public Library, to coordinate and facilitate programming, policies, and procedures in EmPower Place. Oversee creation of children’s programming that is inclusive and educational for various age‑groups, and is in alignment with MFB&CC’s mission and strategic vision for EmPower Place. Train staff, spectrum educators, and volunteers on EmPower Place operations and safety protocols. Cultivate meaningful relationships with children and families in EmPower Place while providing trauma‑informed support and interactions. Lead staffing and scheduling in EmPower Place. Complete monthly reporting for EmPower Place visitation. Support EmPower Place Coordinator to manage family interactions, complete monthly reporting in a timely manner, facilitate meal distribution in compliance with federal programming and health department requirements, and initiate volunteer recognition. Manage EmPower Place related incident reports. Advocacy & Application Assistance: Participate in MFB&CC’s Advocacy & Education committee to support and co‑lead advocacy efforts within our organization. Lead and organize FEAST (Food, Education, Advocacy, Support, Together) programming. Communicate critical and timely food policy information to staff and volunteers. Oversee application assistance efforts for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other safety‑net resources like Medicaid, TANF, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Federal Free/Reduced Lunch program, and voter registration. Support Program Application Specialist to offer consistent and effective application assistance hours, complete monthly reporting in a timely manner, and seek outreach opportunities. Community Center & Engagement: Lead and organize special community events (Back to School Bash, EmPower Place Celebrations, etc). Oversee our learning kitchen/conference room space. This includes scheduling groups to use our space, maintaining the space, and completing monthly reporting on space usage. Support Community Engagement Coordinator to co‑create LEVL programming, coordinate learning kitchen/conference room space happenings, and lead applicable programming. Support cooking class coordination through supporting volunteer instructors, shopping for groceries, and periodically leading classes. Co‑lead MFB&CC’s lived expert program, LEVL (Lived Experience Voices and Leaders). This involves program creation, leading group conversations, supporting storytelling efforts, encouraging advocacy efforts, and building relationships. Represent MFB&CC at resource fairs, tabling events, and other outreach opportunities. Speak publicly about MFB&CC mission, values, advocacy, and programming. Other Responsibilities: Supervise and support the Community Engagement Coordinator, EmPower Place Coordinator, and Program Application Specialist. Manage schedules, annual goals writing and performance evaluations, and timesheets. Lead Community Engagement Team to guide overall vision and implementation of programs. Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator to schedule volunteers for recurring needs and special events. Collaboratively lead and take part in facility cleaning efforts with staff and volunteers. Coordinate projects consistent with the goals and steps identified in the strategic plan associated with Community Engagement efforts. Engage in Management Team discussions and support and communicate organizational decisions. Cocreate and administer program surveys. Collaborate with co‑workers on shared space for program overlap of other operations. Support answering the general phone line to answer customer questions and respond to customer needs.
