Surgical tech

Department: Scotland Memorial Hospital – Surgery Room Position: Full-time, 2nd Shift Responsibilities Prepares for surgical procedures by identifying, selecting and setting up instruments using aseptic technique. Inspects all equipment, instruments and packaging for sterility and proper function. Utilizes and understands sterilization principles in processing instruments and equipment. Uses proper hand washing technique and prepares OR field according to standards. Anticipates surgeon's needs for instruments and sutures. Maintains operative field neat, clean and dry. Properly identifies and passes specimens to the circulating nurse after verifying with the surgeon. Accurately reports all prosthesis, drains and catheters to the circulating nurse. Disposes of used supplies according to procedure. Assists with room clean‑up and set‑up. Returns reusable equipment and supplies to appropriate places. Counts sponges, instruments and sharps prior to operative incision and at closure of any cavity according to standards. Assists in properly positioning patient on the table. Performs miscellaneous tasks to facilitate continuity of patient care such as relieving at break, lunch time, and assisting with cleaning and restocking. Is accessible when on call according to policy. Demonstrates age‑specific competency for patients ranging from neonatal/infant to geriatric; applies appropriate care strategies for each life‑span category. Minimum Requirements Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Diplomacy, tact and a positive approach to problem solving. Strong organizational skills.
