Mobile Diesel Technician II The Mobile Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs and serving as the lead on jobsites for customers and technicians. Duties Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials. Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment across the same systems. Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functioning. Identify problems and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives. Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations effectively. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks. Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) via the TRAIT application on an iOS device. Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner. Work independently and manage own daily schedule. Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain repair estimate approvals, purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Maintain the company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections. Requirements High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment. Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties. OEM training and certifications are preferred. Complete all company‑required training. This position follows DOT, FMCSA regulations; must pass a DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. Current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be substituted for a DOT physical. Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations. Valid driver’s license required; must hold a state‑of‑residence license and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor. Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods without tiring, including repetitive tasks. Communicate information succinctly and organized; engage effectively in two‑way communication. Determine needed tools and equipment accurately. Accurately judge distances and relative positioning of objects. Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches.
