Sessional Lecturer Position Posting Date: June 8, 2026 Program: Master of Health Informatics (MHI) Sessional Dates of Appointment: Fall 2026, Winter 2027, Spring/Summer 2027 Existing Vacancy: Yes Course Title: MHI2005Y (Health Informatics Practicum) Course Description MHI2005Y is a practicum for the MHI program. The practicum is the applied learning component of the Master of Health Informatics education. The overall objective of the practicum is to broaden the student’s appreciation for and skills in managing health services organizations by allowing students to evaluate, test and further develop their competencies in a practical setting. From May‑August, every MHI student participates in a full‑time (600 hour) professional practicum placement that counts for 20% of degree credits (2 FCE). The practicum provides learners with the opportunity to build on MHI course learning and to employ related problem‑solving skills. By the start of the practicum, students will have completed more than 250 hours of in‑class graduate education, in addition to workshops and projects. The overall objective of the practicum is to provide an opportunity for students to apply the theory and knowledge gained in course work, directly in a health care related organization. MHI2010H supports students’ ongoing learning and contribution at practicum placement sites. It is offered in the fall term (Sept. – Dec.) on the course instructor’s approval of an invitation of preceptors to students to continue their study. The course is designed to be conducted primarily online, and to build on work and reflection to date, as achieved via MHI2005Y. The fieldwork is seen as incremental and developmental, being adaptable to the individual student’s needs, and building on their work experience. Objectives Articulate their individual strengths as related to the field in general and to specific work opportunities Produce a resume and cover letter well‑suited to the health informatics work environment Identify their own learning needs and design a learning contract that will address those needs. Complete the activities outlined in the learning contract, as negotiated with their preceptor and course instructor. Optimize their learning opportunities by reflection, through their learning journal and discussions with the preceptor and course instructor. Evaluate their professional strengths and development needs for successful career progression through self‑reflection. Understand the key components of successful career planning in a healthcare environment. Course Details Class schedule: Modular sessions from 1:10 pm to 4 pm on Wednesdays between September 23, 2026 and March 10, 2027. Practicum and individual meetings will be held during the final term.
