Mortgage Underwriter

Role: Underwrites residential mortgage loan applications, ensuring compliance with agency, investor, regulatory, and internal guidelines. Responsibilities: Evaluate complex mortgage applications, including credit reports, collateral, tax returns, and supporting docs to make credit decisions within authority levels using automated tools. Assess loan viability, identify risks, potential fraud, and communicate decisions or conditions to sales and operations teams. Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Manage loan pipelines proactively, prioritize files, and meet closing deadlines. Collaborate with team members to resolve denials and provide second-level reviews for training. Mentor less experienced underwriters and handle audit or post-closing issues. Qualifications & Skills: Deep understanding of mortgage regulations, underwriting guidelines, and various product types. Excellent communication skills to articulate borrower financial profiles and risks. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively.
