Registered Nurse

Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Weekends and holidays are required. This is a float pool position that includes floating to various units. Experience in level 1 trauma situations is necessary, with the ability to float in acute care units, surgical, behavioral health, medical specialties, hematology/oncology, step-down units, and cardiac pediatrics. Experience in caring for low acuity patients is expected. Candidates must have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required. The ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services is necessary. Candidates should possess some computer skills.
