Check out our website to discover the Tenneco WayThe Regional EHS Director oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs across multiple sites in North America (ex-Mexico), providing technical and tactical support with the goal of being “best in class” in the introduction and effectiveness of Tenneco EH&S strategies. Acting as bridge between the Global EH&S team and the manufacturing plants, with a focus on Plant execution EH&S initiatives. The Regional EHS Director ensure the adherence to national and local regulations and corporate policies, lead risk management efforts, and promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the region. Focus on execution / implementation of the Tenneco EH&S strategy in Manufacturing plants, as defined by the global EH&S team and the local Operations leadership. Ensure that all Manufacturing Plants in coverage quickly and effectively adopt all EH&S projects / strategies. The position may be based in Plymouth, Michigan and reports directly to the Exec Director EHS, Americas of the company. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDirectly manage a team of approximately 10 direct reports and additional indirects, comprising EHS managers and staff at the various manufacturing facilities within geographic and business scope, leveraging that team for this role’s ultimate success.Coach, mentor and develop the team to improve technical and soft skills for success within Tenneco.Alignment across all plants of the actions required to achieve zero incidents.Ensure all required reporting is updated and accurate in a timely manner Tracking and follow up across all plants to ensure introduction timelines are met and actions closedIdentify and correct knowledge gaps within plant teamsFacilitate and “read across” of lessons learnt and follow up on the effectiveness at a plant levelDevelop, implement, and maintain regional EHS policies, procedures, and programs aligned with corporate standards and applicable regulationsEnsure compliance with relevant EHS laws, including enforceable consensus standards, environmental regulations, and labor health and safety lawsConduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and enforce corrective actions with the plant teamSupport the plant thorough incident investigations, root cause analyses, and reporting to prevent recurrenceDeliver EHS training and awareness programs specially made to local workforce needsCollaborate with operations and management teams to implement EHS best practices into daily workflowsMonitor, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics to senior managementSupport the sites in the emergency preparedness and response plansSupport environmental sustainability initiatives and compliance with emissions, waste, and water discharge regulationsCoordinate with applicable national and state regulatory agencies such as EPA , OSHA, among federal and local agencies during inspections and compliance auditsMinimum RequirementsEducation: Four (4) year degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental discipline or equivalent; Relevant advanced degree preferredExperience: 7+ years of experience with an emphasis in environmental, health and safety program management and employee training.SkillsRequired hard skillsMust have clear communication and writing skills in English.Proficiency to convey information at multiple levels of the organizationAbility to travel a minimum of 50% of the time with up to 75% travel to designated areas. Strong team-building skillsStrong organizational skills including ability to manage large number of disparate projects and to track projects through completionWorking knowledge of cross-functional EHS disciplinesAdept at development and utilization of software solutionsUnderstanding of manufacturing technologies and processesAbility to demonstrate managerial courage (e.g., managing varied interests representing potential conflicts)Ability to lead and support cross-functional process improvement teamsProfessional certification preferred (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, or country equivalent).Proficiency in local languages preferredKnowledge of applicable regulations relevant to workplace safety and environmental managementFamiliarity with labor laws related to occupational health and safetyKnowledge in EnhesaExpertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining EHS management systems based on international standards like ISO 14001 and ISO 45001Ability to support the sites on integrating regulatory requirements into the EHS management system to ensure full complianceSkills in developing documentation, procedures and controls that support continuous improvement and certification readinessExperience conducting internal and external audits to verify system effectiveness and compliance.Strong data analysis skills to interpret EHS metrics and drive performance improvements.Required soft skillsLeadership and Influence: Ability to inspire and motivate all levels of the organization to take ownership of EHS responsibilities, breaking the perception that EHS is solely the Director’s or EHS organization’s job. Leading by example both on the shop floor and in strategic meetings is crucialProblem-Solving and Analytical Mindset: Uses data and incident reports to identify trends and underlying issues.
