PARAMEDIC - RAPID RESPONSE -

Compensation Receive 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights and 15% Weekend Day shift differentials. Minimum Offer: $24.29/hr. Maximum Offer: $36.43/hr. Sign-On Bonus Available. Relocation Assistance Available. Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations. Position Summary Provide direct patient care under the guidelines and protocols provided by the UNMH Rapid Response Medical Director. Operate within the scope of practice as defined by the New Mexico Bureau of Emergency Medical Services along with any approved UNMH special skills. Function as a patient advocate. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Age Groups. Detailed Responsibilities Provide basic life support up to advanced life support including defibrillation, cardio-ventilation, oral/nasal endotracheal intubation, medication administration, needle thoracotomy, surgical cricothyrotomy, deep suctioning, interosseous catheter insertion, perform/interpret 12-lead EKGs and chemical blood glucose tests. Work autonomously to stabilize patients and guide care until providers arrive; triage emergency care on hospital property to emergency department; stabilize and/or prepare patient for transport; document all patient care activities; assess test results and laboratory values for purpose of adjusting patient therapy; respond to hospital non-patient emergencies. Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, topical application, sublingual and intravenous medications via the seven rights; provide nebulized drug administration; document and communicate clinical findings. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards. Monitor and stock supply areas; maintain equipment as appropriate. Attend education sessions, department and other meetings as appropriate. Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and hospital employees. Participate in department quality programs. Assist in orienting new employees as required. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops. Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols. Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes. Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk. Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner. Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don’t understand or may “not seem right”. Respond with multiple teams across the hospital complex to include, but not limited to, the DR. Heart team, the Stroke Alert Team, the DART Team, and the Sepsis Response Team; provide essential rapid communication and act as a patient care advocate/liaison between multiple departments to decrease patient mortality and improve patient outcomes. Perform ultrasound guided peripheral venous puncture, blood draws, arterial blood gas, and IV fluid therapy, drug administration and other skills providers may request. Qualifications Education : High School or GED Equivalent (Essential) Associate Degree (Nonessential) Bachelor's Degree (Nonessential) Experience : 1 year related experience (Essential) 3 years directly related experience (Nonessential) Credentials : CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers (Essential) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (Essential) Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License (Essential) PALS (Essential) Complete & maintain unit/clinic based required cert & comps (Essential) Nationally Registered Paramedic License (Nonessential) Valid New Mexico Driver's License (Nonessential) UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit within 60 days (Nonessential) Critical Care Paramedic (Nonessential) UNMH basic arrhythmia course within 3 months of position (Nonessential) Arterial Blood Gas course within 3 months of position (Nonessential) CEVO Course within 3 months of position (Nonessential) Ultrasound guided IV course within 3 months of position (Nonessential) DOT Medical Certification within 60 days of position (Nonessential) Physical Conditions : Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work. Sig Haz: Physical risk/injuries due to combative patients. Sig Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials req PPE. May drive on/off UNMH grounds, traffic/vehicle exposure. Weather exposure: rain, ice, wind, snow, sun possible. Subject to random alcohol and substance testing.
