Buyer I

Job Summary: The Buyer I is responsible for supporting purchasing and material planning activities for manufacturing operations within a structural steel and pre‑engineered metal building (PEMB) environment. This role assists with sourcing raw materials, fabricated components, production supplies, shop consumables, and operational services necessary to support daily manufacturing operations and production schedules. The Buyer I works closely with production, inventory control, engineering, shipping, warehouse, and suppliers to ensure materials are purchased accurately, delivered on time, and maintained at appropriate inventory levels. This role plays a key part in supporting operational continuity, inventory accuracy, supplier communication, and cost‑effective purchasing practices within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities: ERP System Management UtilizeStrumisERP software to create, manage, and track purchase orders, material requirements, inventory transactions, and procurement activities. Maintainaccurateitem master data, vendor information, material codes, and purchasing records within theStrumissystem. Assistwith resolvingpurchasingdiscrepancies, receiving issues, and inventory variances within the ERP system. Purchasing Operations Create, process, andmaintainpurchase orders for raw materials, fabricated components, production supplies, shop consumables, equipment, and operational services. Monitor open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to ensuretimelydelivery of materials and services. Coordinate with vendorsregardingpricing, lead times, shipment schedules, order confirmations, shortages, and delivery discrepancies. Assistwith sourcing materials and evaluating alternative suppliers to support operational demands and cost control initiatives. Review material requisitions and verifypurchasinginformation for accuracy, completeness, and proper approvals. Supportpurchasingactivities related to steel, hardware, paint, consumables, fabrication supplies, safety products, and production-related materials. Production & Manufacturing Support Work closely with production scheduling, warehouse, and manufacturing teams to support material availability and operational priorities. Assistwith managing inventory levels to minimize shortages, excess inventory, and production interruptions. Monitor critical inventory items and communicate potential supply concerns to leadership. Support coordination of rush orders, production priorities, and expedited shipments as needed. Assistwith resolving material-related issuesimpactingproduction schedules or operational efficiency. Support manufacturing operations by helping ensure purchased materials meet quality and specification requirements. Inventory, Reporting & Administrative Support Maintainaccuratepurchasing records, procurement files, vendor information, and system documentation. Enter andmaintainpurchasing data within ERP, inventory, or purchasing systems. Assistwith inventory audits, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliation activities as needed. Prepare reports related to purchasing activity, inventory levels, open orders, and supplier performance. Support continuous improvement initiatives related topurchasingprocesses, inventory management, and operational efficiency. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications: Experience:3 years of purchasing, procurement, inventory control, or manufacturing support experience preferred. Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, structural steel, or industrial environments Experience usingStrumisERP software within a structural steel fabrication or manufacturing environmentstronglypreferred. Experience working with ERP, MRP, or inventory management systems. Proficiencywith Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Education:Associate degree in Business, Supply Chain,Purchasing, Operations Management, or related field.Bachelor’s degree preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Understanding ofpurchasing, procurement, inventory management, and supply chain operations. Knowledge of manufacturing materials, shop supplies, and production support processes preferred. Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple purchasing activities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in purchasingdocumentation and data entry. Effective communication and vendor relationship management skills. Ability to analyzepurchasingissues andassistwith problem resolution. Ability to work collaboratively with production, warehouse, engineering, and operational teams. Strong workethic, reliability, and professionalism. Work Environment Office environment within a manufacturing and production setting. Frequent interaction with production, warehouse, and operational teams. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor conditions including noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout office and manufacturing environments as needed. Ability to occasionally lift or carry office materials, samples, or supplies up to 25 pounds. Ability to work at a computer workstation for extended periods.
