CNC Machinist

MachinistThe Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions. As a Machinist, you will play a key role in operating CNC mills and lathes to support our growing manufacturing team. You'll work closely with teammates to ensure parts are produced safely, accurately, and on schedule. This role offers hands-on experience, opportunities to learn new equipment, and room to grow as our capabilities expand. We're looking for a dependable team players who takes pride in quality work, values safety, and enjoys solving problems in a collaborative shop environment. Positions are available on day and night shifts; some schedule flexibility is required. The current schedule is four 12-hour shifts per week.ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate CNC and conventional mills and lathesPerform CNC setups, including tool selection, tool offsets, work offsets, and part validationRead and interpret G-code and M-code; make basic program edits at the control when neededUse measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.) to inspect parts during and after machiningPerform routine machine maintenance and coordinate with support as neededFollow safety procedures and report any unsafe conditions or equipment issuesMaintain attention to detail and contribute to process and workflow improvementsBasic QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED2 to 5 years of experience operating CNC mills or lathesAbility to read and understand G-code and M-codeUnderstanding of machining and shop safety practicesAbility to perform basic math, including algebra and geometryPreferred Skills and ExperienceExperience performing full CNC setups on mills and/or lathesFamiliarity with Fanuc or similar CNC controlsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerancesIn-process and final inspection experienceMechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skillsAbility to hold close tolerances (±0.001")Experience in a production or fast-paced manufacturing environmentPhysical & Work RequirementsAbility to stand, bend, and work in a shop environment for extended periodsWillingness to work occasional overtime or weekends as neededWe're a team of dedicated, smart, and scrappy people.
