Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler is responsible for accurately stocking, pulling, and delivering parts, materials, and supplies to support production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a full-time, first shift role, working Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a strong focus on safe material handling, inventory accuracy, and effective communication across the facility.

Responsibilities

• Perform material handling and warehousing functions including receiving, processing, storing, moving, packing, and shipping parts, materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Stock and pull parts and materials for production orders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Accurately utilize data collection systems to track inventory movements and material transactions.
• Perform bin transfer confirmations and verify all materials pulled for production orders.
• Effectively use software systems and RF scanners to access, update, and maintain inventory and order information.
• Maintain administrative records and operate a computer for receiving, counting, and order processing activities.
• Safely operate forklifts, high-reach forklifts, and other mobile equipment as required to facilitate material movement.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as required and report any issues promptly.
• Assist in identifying operational issues and initiate corrective action processes when necessary.
• Conduct 5S audits to support workplace organization and cleanliness.
• Perform Safety Stop audit observations and help reinforce safe work practices throughout the facility.
• Participate in continuous improvement and process improvement activities (CI/PID) to enhance efficiency and safety.
• Support cross-training initiatives by taking on additional duties or tasks to assist various areas of the shop.
• Follow established standard work procedures and production system guidelines.
• Promote a culture aligned with organizational values and serve as a positive role model for colleagues.
• Follow facility safety policies, safe job procedures, and hazard risk assessments, using appropriate personal protective equipment for each task.
• Work collaboratively with a variety of employees, including plant management, supervisors, and production personnel, to communicate needs and complete job-related tasks.
• Contribute to team efforts by supporting coworkers and demonstrating a proven ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Ensure customer requirements are met through accurate and timely handling of materials and orders.
• Conduct all business activities with the highest level of honesty and integrity.
• Perform safe execution of repetitive motions and lifting tasks, including repetitively lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds.
• Safely lift, push, and pull components or parts as needed to support production and warehousing operations.
• Travel periodically to other areas of the plant and other warehouses as directed to support material handling needs.
• Complete other duties as assigned to support overall shop operations and organizational goals.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Proven record of good attendance and reliability.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet production and shipping deadlines.

• Proficiency with computers and basic software applications for data entry and recordkeeping.
• Experience with material handling, including safe lifting, moving, and storing of parts and supplies.
• Ability to repetitively lift and carry up to 35 pounds and safely perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling components.
• Visual and hearing abilities appropriate for the safe execution of job duties and operation of equipment.
• Ability to sit or stand as needed and periodically walk or travel to other areas of the plant and warehouses.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating forklifts and high-reach forklifts in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Hands-on experience with RF scanners for inventory and order processing.
• Familiarity with data collection systems and inventory management software.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on material handling equipment.
• Experience in conducting 5S audits and supporting workplace organization initiatives.
• Exposure to Safety Stop audits and participation in safety observation programs.
• Participation in continuous improvement and process improvement (CI/PID) activities.
• Demonstrated ability to follow standard work procedures and production system guidelines.
• Ability to serve as a positive role model and contribute to a values-driven culture.
• Experience interfacing with plant management, supervisors, and production personnel to coordinate material flow.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and warehouse setting, working Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The environment is fast-paced and highly focused on safety, organization, and efficiency. You will work around production lines, storage areas, and shipping docks, frequently moving between different areas of the plant and other warehouses as needed. The position involves regular use of forklifts, high-reach forklifts, RF scanners, computers, and inventory management systems. Work includes repetitive motions and physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling components and materials up to 35 pounds. Employees follow established facility safety policies, hazard risk assessments, and standard work procedures, and use appropriate personal protective equipment for each task. The workplace promotes 5S principles to maintain cleanliness and order, and supports a collaborative atmosphere where clear communication and teamwork are essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Fargo, ND.

The pay range for this position is $21.97 - $27.82/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
