Mechanical Inspector

Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support. Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders. Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner. Verify contractor compliance with local and national mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards. Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities. Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values. Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third‑party agencies as needed. Perform inspections of Mechanical and Plumbing installations including, but not limited to: Domestic Water and Sewage Systems Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping Mechanical ventilation and exhaust Fire and life safety integration (e.g., smoke dampers) Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout / tagout procedures Commissioning and balancing reports Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM‑200 suppression systems Hardware/Software Knowledge Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (i.e., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.). Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision. 3 years or more of experience performing mechanical inspections on large scale Public Works type projects Professional Licenses & Certifications Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector, 30‑hour Cal‑OSHA training prior to assignment. The 30‑Hour training has to have been received within the last 4 years.
