Development Review Coordinator II - Department of Planning & Land Management / Development Review

The Position The City of Ontario has an excellent promotional opportunity for an experienced building inspection professional to supervise programs and staff activities for the Building Department's Building Inspection Unit as well as checking plans. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to analyze problems and recommend alternate solutions, provide administrative and professional leadership and direction, as well as the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships. Examples Of Essential Functions Supervising Building Inspector: Supervises and directs the activities of staff including employee selection, work assignment, performance evaluations, employee development, disciplinary action and complaint resolution. Examines, reviews, approves and conducts field inspections of residential, commercial and industrial building plans; determines and ensures compliance with city and state codes and ordinances including, Uniform Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical Codes and California Title 24 Energy and Accessibility Standards. Analyzes and reviews structural engineering designs and verifies / checks calculations on submitted plans to make appropriate plan check processing evaluations. Approves plans accordingly. Identifies and describes inadequacies and deficiencies with submitted plans, makes corrections and recommendations, records comments and notifies applicant. Recommends building inspection goals and objectives; participates in budget preparation and administration. Approves the issuance of building and occupancy permits; computes fees, issues technical and detailed permits; assists with routine counter permit issuance. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for effective building inspection services. Ensures that building inspections for compliance with codes are conducted in compliance with accepted techniques. Responds to technical questions from building inspection staff. Meets with homeowners, contractors, developers, architects, and engineers to resolve issues and concerns; recommend necessary changes to obtain compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Coordinates building inspection activities with other City departments as required. Confers with architects, contractors, builders, and the general public in the field and in the office; explains and interprets requirements and restrictions. Qualification Guidelines Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Example combinations are listed below. Education: Two years of study at an accredited college or university in engineering, construction management or a related field. Additional experience in building construction or inspection may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Experience: Five years of experience in the inspection of public, commercial, industrial and residential buildings. License: A valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment are required. Certifications: Certification as a combination Building Inspector issued by the International Code Council (ICC). Note: This is a promotional opportunity.
