Dispatch Supervisor

Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs approximately 2,700 staff and is responsible for a wide range of institutional service and business operations across New Jersey. Posting Summary Rutgers University is seeking a Communications Dispatch Supervisor for the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD). The role reports to the Director of Public Safety Communications and supervises the daily operations of the university’s Shared Services Public Safety Communications Center. Organize and supervise public safety telecommunicators and other personnel in computer‑aided dispatch for police, fire, and other services on a 24‑hour basis. Maintain records and perform related work as required. Continuously improve operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline processes, and provide high‑quality customer service. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or equivalent education and experience demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of communications principles and practices. At least two (2) years of 9‑1‑1 telecommunications experience in a moderately busy shared services call center. Must be certified as a Basic Telecommunicator Officer and Emergency Medical Dispatch, and be a BTO & EMD Instructor. Strong communication skills, including intermediate typing; ability to function efficiently under stress and handle multiple tasks. Knowledge of current telecommunications organizational structure, policies, procedures, and terminology. Adherence to all departmental directives; occasional training days required. Preferred: At least five (5) years of 9‑1‑1 telecommunications experience in a moderately busy shared services call center.
