Peace Officer II – Porterville Developmental Center Department of Developmental Services – Porterville Developmental Center Job ID: JC-522543 – Sergeant Salary: $6,723.00 – $8,452.00 per month (new to state candidates hired at minimum) Final Filing Date: Until Filled Working Conditions Candidate must be a resident of California and authorized to work in the United States. The position requires a valid California driver’s license and a current POST Basic Academy certificate. Responsibilities Detect or verify violations of laws, rules, regulations, and facility policies, and enforce and maintain law and order at the developmental center. Plan, organize, and direct overall security policies and programs necessary for the protection of persons and property. Supervise PO I response to calls for service, alarms, emergent situations, investigations, and reports. Oversee PO I activities, ensuring the completion of daily facility tasks. Staff and ensure training requirements are met in accordance with Department mandates and POST requirements. Prepare written investigative reports, review PO I reports, and maintain record control systems. Identify personnel issues and equipment needs, establish office protocols, and report all serious or unusual situations. Perform program or policy development and interpretation duties. Execute other duties as required by supervisor. Minimum Requirements Completion of the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Basic Academy and attainment of Peace Officer certification. Current California driver’s license. Background check clearance, including FBI, California DOJ fingerprint clearance, and DMV clearance. Pre‑employment physical and fingerprint clearance. Authority under California Penal Code §830.38. Desirable Qualifications Knowledge of various developmental disabilities and the admission commitments of developmental centers. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and rules. Ability to interview victims and witnesses with diverse physical, emotional, or mental communication limitations. Ability to analyze, think, and act quickly in emergencies and adopt effective actions. Excellent supervisory and communication skills.
