Job Title: Shop Technician (Tech 2) – 2nd Shift

Job Description

The Shop Technician (Tech 2) works hands-on with drivetrain components in a clean, well-organized shop environment, performing basic assembly and disassembly operations on the 2nd shift schedule. This role uses blueprints, precision measuring tools, and torque devices to ensure all work meets strict quality and safety standards. The technician supports preventive maintenance, participates in continuous improvement activities, and assists across various areas of the shop to promote cross-training and operational flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic assembly and disassembly operations on drivetrain components and related parts.
• Use blueprints, gauges, torque measuring devices, and other equipment to ensure all work meets quality specifications.
• Use precision measuring devices to accurately assemble and disassemble final products.
• Interpret and understand blueprints and technical drawings to complete tasks correctly and efficiently.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and work areas as required.
• Assist in identifying quality, process, or safety issues and help initiate appropriate corrective actions.
• Conduct Safety Stop Audits and observations to support a strong safety culture.
• Participate actively in Continuous Improvement (CI) and Process Improvement and Development (PID) initiatives.
• Support cross-training by performing additional duties or tasks as assigned in various areas of the shop.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all shop procedures and standards.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and disassembly, especially involving drivetrain components.
• Ability to use hand tools effectively in a production or shop environment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
• Skill in using precision measuring devices such as gauges and torque measuring tools.
• Ability to follow quality specifications and standards with strong attention to detail.
• Capability to perform preventive maintenance tasks on equipment and tools.
• Comfort working in a structured safety program, including performing safety audits and observations.
• Willingness to participate in continuous improvement processes (CI/PID) and follow standardized procedures.
• Prior experience in one or more of the following areas: mechanical assembly/disassembly, welding, metal fabrication, agricultural equipment assembly, construction equipment assembly, or mechanical repair.

Work Environment

The position is based in a clean, well-organized shop environment with a collaborative team of approximately 100 employees on the first shift and a structured operation across shifts. This role is scheduled on 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday, from 4:15 p.m. to 2:45 a.m., providing a four-day workweek with the possibility of overtime. The work involves hands-on use of hand tools, gauges, torque measuring devices, and precision measuring instruments in a production setting. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to quality standards, with a professional shop atmosphere and clear processes to support efficient and reliable operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Fargo, ND.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.76 - $30.24/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
