A breakfast line cook's typical day:
During prep (morning shift start):
- Setup place for breakfast service—portioning meats, prepping vegetables, preparing sauces and condiments
- Setting up the line station with all needed ingredients and tools
- Checking equipment and stock levels
During service:
- Cooking to order—eggs, pancakes, hash browns, breakfast sandwiches, whatever's on the menu
- Plating and expediting their station's food
- Managing timing to get orders out consistently
Key skills needed:
- Speed and consistency with eggs (fried, scrambled, omelettes)
- Multitasking under pressure
- Ability to work efficiently in a hot, cramped space
- Communication with front-of-house and other line cooks
