Lab Technician

Title: Lab Technician Position Type: Full-Time/Regular Division: NxEdge Department: Engineering Location: NxEdge - Boise Job Summary & Job Duties Laboratory Operations Perform routine laboratory testing and inspections on production and development samples. Prepare metallurgical cross-sections and mount, polish, and document test specimens. Conduct coating thickness measurements using approved inspection methods. Perform surface roughness measurements using optical and conventional profilometers. Analize specimens using SEM/EDX and XRD. Assist with material characterization and evaluation activities. Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure calibration requirements are met. Perform failure analysis and reliability tests. Develop testing methodologies to measure product quality and performance. Quality and Engineering Support Support root cause investigations involving coating, machining, plating masking, blasting, cleaning, and inspection processes. Collect, organize, and analyze process and quality data. Assist engineers in process development, validation, and continuous improvement projects. Maintain accurate laboratory records and test reports. Support nonconformance investigations and corrective action activities. Participate in customer qualification and process validation efforts. Data and Documentation Generate inspection reports and technical documentation. Enter and maintain data in quality systems, spreadsheets, and databases. Create charts, summaries, and presentations to communicate test results. Ensure all laboratory records meet quality management system requirements. Safety and Compliance Follow all safety policies and laboratory procedures. Properly handle chemicals, abrasives, and testing equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready laboratory environment. Support compliance with ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Materials Science, Chemistry, Manufacturing Technology, or related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered. 2+ years of laboratory, manufacturing, quality, or engineering support experience. Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision measurements. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and basic data analysis. Ability to accurately follow procedures and maintain detailed records. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with metallographic sample preparation and microscopy. Experience performing surface roughness measurements and coating evaluations. Familiarity with thermal spray coatings, anodizing, blasting, machining, or semiconductor manufacturing processes. Knowledge of SPC, GR&R, and basic statistical analysis. Experience with ISO 9001 quality systems. Experience using optical microscopes, profilometers, coating thickness measurement equipment, SEM/EDX, XRD, adhesion testing equipment is desirable. Experience supporting root cause investigations and corrective actions.
