Orthopedic Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic Trauma Surgery team at Bridgeport Hospital. This role provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with orthopedic trauma surgeons in both the operating room and inpatient clinical settings, delivering high-quality care to patients with acute musculoskeletal injuries and complex orthopedic trauma conditions.

Position Highlights

• Full-time Physician Assistant opportunity within Orthopedic Trauma Surgery at Bridgeport Hospital
• 24-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
• Mix of operating room first assist, inpatient rounding, consults, and perioperative patient management
• Collaborative team environment with experienced orthopedic trauma surgeons and APPs
• Opportunity to participate in the care of complex trauma patients and assist with a wide variety of orthopedic trauma procedures

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, histories, and physical examinations
• Assist orthopedic trauma surgeons in the operating room as first assist
• Manage preoperative and postoperative care for orthopedic trauma patients
• Conduct inpatient rounds, trauma consults, and ongoing patient management
• Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests
• Perform procedures including splinting, casting, wound care, fracture management, and other orthopedic interventions within scope of practice
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation staff, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery expectations, and injury prevention
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Certified or eligible for certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
• Connecticut Physician Assistant license or license eligible
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Physician Assistant in Orthopedic Trauma Services
• Prior orthopedic surgery and first assist experience required
• Demonstrated knowledge of orthopedic trauma evaluation, treatment, and perioperative care
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team
