Staff Accountant

Client Overview: Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking a Staff Accountant to support financial operations, grant accounting, and reporting activities. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with grant and funding requirements while contributing to the organization's overall financial health. Salary/Hourly Rate: $60k - $65k Annually Position Overview: The Staff Accountant is passionate about accounting and financial stewardship and thrives in a collaborative, service-oriented environment. This role provides support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and grant accounting activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to grow within a nonprofit organization while supporting critical financial operations. Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant: Accounts Payable & Receivable Support: Assist with processing and recording accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions while ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Financial Transaction Management: Record daily financial transactions and maintain accurate accounting records. Account Reconciliations: Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis. Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end close activities. Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and internal management reports. Grant Accounting: Track grant revenues and expenses while ensuring compliance with funding requirements and restrictions. Grant Reimbursement Reporting: Prepare grant reimbursement requests and supporting financial reports for funding agencies. Program Expense Tracking: Collaborate with program teams to ensure proper coding of grant-related expenses and accurate cost allocations. Grant File Maintenance: Maintain organized, audit-ready grant and contract documentation. Compliance Support: Assist with maintaining accurate financial records in accordance with organizational policies and accounting standards. Process Improvement: Participate in initiatives designed to improve accounting accuracy, efficiency, and internal processes. Special Projects: Support the Controller and leadership team with financial analysis and other accounting projects as assigned. Required Experience/Skills for the Staff Accountant: 1 - 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit or grant-funded environment. Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Experience preparing journal entries and supporting month-end close activities. Knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with accounting software; Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments. Preferred Experience/Skills for the Staff Accountant: Understanding of grant accounting and fund accounting principles is preferred. MIP Fund Accounting experience is a plus.
