- # Manager, Chemistry Lab - 40 hours/week, day shiftApplylocations: Beverly Hospital: Addison Gilbert Hospitaltime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: JR100746**When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.**Under the general guidance of the Medical Director and Administrative Director, this position provides administrative and technical leadership as well as overall management for their Laboratory Section; this includes instrument and test selection, training, procedure review, personnel hiring, evaluation and disciplinary actions, staff development and competency assessment, budget developing and monitoring. The Manager accepts responsibility for the overall managerial and operational functions necessary to ensure fulfillment of the department mission, as well as NHC and BILH missions. The Manager works independently and demonstrates advanced technical and administrative skills in major areas of the laboratory. Coverage includes occasional weekends and holidays.**Job Description:****Essential Duties & Responsibilities** including but are not limited to: **Operational Functions** 1. Prepare and maintain policies and procedures appropriate for the operation of this section. 2. Provide guidance and/or resolution for clinical problem solving (e.g. instrumentation, equipment, test systems, clinical correlation, backup systems, and system performance). 3. Oversee implementation of new instruments, methodologies and tests. 4. Develop workflow to achieve simplification of procedures and processes. 5. Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies including but not limited to: JCAHO, CAP, OSHA, DPH, NCCLS. 6. Maintain adequate and appropriate inventories of all supplies required to perform procedures without emergency shortages. 7. Perform duties of a medical technologist as required, with skills equal to senior technologists. 8. Meet with the Medical Director and the Administrative Director periodically to review department status. **Personnel Functions** 1. Schedule colleagues to meet department workload within budgetary limits. 2. Participate in employment interviews and recommend qualified candidates for vacancies. 3. Follow NHC and departmental policies for orientating and training new colleagues. 4. Ensure all colleagues fulfill their annual mandatory requirements (competency, safety, education, etc.) and that documentation is prepared for each requirement. 5. Work with section managers to ensure optimal utilization of staff and facilitate cross training of staff. 6. Discuss disciplinary concerns with the Administrative Director. Conduct counseling and disciplinary sessions with colleague when performance warrants. Prepare required documentation. 7. Prepare colleague performance appraisals to include past performance and new goals. **Fiscal Management** 1. Prepare a budget annually with the Medical Director and Administrative Director. 2. Monitor actual expenses to budget and explain variances. Adjust operations as needed. 3. Contribute to department goal of optimization of resources and revenue enhancement. **Quality Control/Quality Assurance** 1. Ensure accurate performance of test results by periodic review of Quality Control and taking corrective action as needed. 2. Ensure continuous quality improvement through active participation in the laboratory Quality Assurance program. 3. Value and respond to customer feedback by taking corrective action or improving sub optimal services. **Administration** 1. Ensure optimal utilization of staff and space. 2. Set priorities and organize work time to meet them. 3. Improve services by working with department managers and technologists to achieve a common goal. 4. Support new ideas and changes within the department. Adapt to change and situations in a positive manner and work together to effect that change. 5. Keep all colleagues updated on current changes, memos, and miscellaneous information. 6. Accept, complete, and report on special assignments within the agreed upon time. 7. Communicate with colleagues through regularly scheduled laboratory meetings. Encourage input from members of the team. 8. Set a positive example by maintaining a productive and cooperative working atmosphere. 9. Work collaboratively to solve problems, to improve processes, and to integrate services within the department and with other departments. 10. Develop a proactive plan to meet future departmental/NHC needs.General Expectations including but are not limited to: **Personal Actions** 1. Make independent judgments and decisions necessary to support the overall operation of the section. 2. Incorporate BILH Standards of Behavior and Mission Statement into daily activities. 3. Comply with all NHC and department specific policies. 4. Follow established safety procedures as stated in the Laboratory Safety and Infection Control Manuals. 5. Comply with behavioral expectations of the department and NHC. 6. Establish and maintains courteous and effective interactions with patients, physicians, management, visitors and other members of the health care team through responsiveness, accuracy of information, and professionalism. 7. Demonstrate an understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment. 8. Demonstrate a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adhere to our customer service standards. 9. Demonstrate a commitment to stay current in management and scientific knowledge by completing 10 hrs/yr continuing education. **Minimum Qualifications:** **Education**:* Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology or Biological Science required.**Required Work Experience**:* 5 or more year’s full time experience required. 7 or more years’ experience with progressive role development highly preferred.* 3 or more years’ experience in a related Supervisory or Managerial role required.**License/Registration/Certification:*** ASCP certified generalist or categorical Technologist or equivalent accreditation required.Other: Demonstrates autonomy, critical thinking skills and has skillset required to oversee all shift operations. Capability and capacity to lead multiple projects and assist senior leadership with hospital wide and system wide high complexity initiatives. Maintains fiscal responsibility for department budget and possesses skillset to do so. Experience and high proficiency with computers required. Web based application experience, Microsoft applications including excel experience required.**Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:** • Ability for strategic thinking, decision making, leadership and organizational planning, • Knowledge of clinical tests and standards necessary to perform complex tests and accurately report result. • Analytic ability to perform complex tests, interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate instruments, etc. • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time, utilize good judgment, work accurately under pressure and handle stress to meet deadlines. • Manual dexterity and acuity necessary to prepare specimens, prepare solutions, screen specimens, and operate instrumentation and a computer. • Interpersonal verbal and written English language skills sufficient to exchange information with physicians and other colleagues**Pay Range:**$110,000.00 USD - $135,000.00 USDThe pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time.
