Senior Buyer

Job Description This Sr. Buyer position is located in Pleasanton, CA within Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) Division. The role focuses on purchasing raw materials, sub-assemblies, products, and services that meet Abbott’s standards for quality, reliability, and cost. Responsibilities Identify, research, evaluate, and select suppliers that meet the organization’s standards of price, quality, timing, and reliability of supply. Evaluate complex sales and promotional campaigns to secure reduced prices. Negotiate and manage long‑term contracts not overseen by commodity management teams, within established limitations and scope of authority, to obtain favorable business partnerships. Plan and schedule deliveries to optimize inventories and support production schedules and business demands by collaborating with forecasting, planning, commodity, and shipping/receiving teams. Review purchase requisitions and confer with vendors to obtain product information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule, and review quotes for accuracy and competitive strategies. Implement process and procedure best practices by partnering with functional leadership across related product lines. Facilitate vendor corrective action and partner with SQE and suppliers to improve quality. Participate in research and development projects, developing and implementing action plans to support rapid new‑product introductions to market. Recommend pricing strategies to achieve departmental operating goals. Create and maintain mutually beneficial long‑term partnerships with suppliers, serving as the single source of contact for the vendor. Serve as the purchasing subject‑matter expert for internal and external customers, drawing on extensive knowledge of purchasing and product‑line operations. Coach and mentor junior members of the purchasing team. Monitor supplier performance, communicate findings, and take action to maintain high levels of performance. Maintain and update supplier databases as required. Generate highly complex reports and perform data analysis to proactively plan or resolve issues. Work with inventory and warehouse management to resolve issues. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in purchasing/commodity management. 3+ years of experience with purchasing/commodity management software. Experience negotiating terms and purchasing agreements. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast‑paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.
