Senior Big Data Engineering Manager, AWS

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, with at least 5 years of applied experience and at least 2 years leading technologists on complex technical challenges
• Strong management experience in a matrixed environment
• Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Experience building highly scalable Java-based microservices applications
• Experience leading multiple teams in adopting enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and delivery tools, including setting governance practices, human-in-the-loop validation and quality gates, measuring outcomes, and protecting sensitive inputs and outputs
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, security, resiliency, and control requirements; ability to coach managers and technical leads and influence leaders on safe scaling practices
• Practical AWS cloud-native experience, including building high-throughput services with EKS, ECS/Fargate, and S3
• Hands-on experience with high-throughput, near-real-time stream processing using Kafka, Kinesis, and Flink, including on ECS/EKS where applicable
• Advanced understanding of agile methods, CI/CD, application resiliency, and security best practices
• Proficiency with source control systems such as Git, Bitbucket, or SVN
• Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes in one or more disciplines, such as cloud or AI/ML
• Preferred: hands-on experience with high-volume Flink processing
• Preferred: experience with development and build tools or frameworks such as IntelliJ/Eclipse, Maven, Gradle, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Cloud
• Preferred: experience with recommendation and personalization systems
• Preferred: interest in or experience solving problems in financial services

• Lead platform strategy and modernization with a cloud-first, data-first approach, including using AI to improve efficiency, detect anomalies, and automate controls
• Promote engineering best practices for stream processing, microservices, API design, CI/CD, observability, and resiliency
• Lead the design of high-throughput, low-latency applications using modern machine learning architectures deployed on AWS
• Design and build secure, scalable microservices; review and debug colleagues code
• Establish and scale operating practices for enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering and SDLC/TLM automation across teams, setting measurable goals and ensuring validation, security, resiliency, and reuse of proven patterns
• Apply SDLC toolchain capabilities, including authorized AI-assisted development and automation, to improve efficiency and support capacity initiatives, prioritizing reuse of existing firm technology
• Develop creative software solutions across design, development, and technical troubleshooting to address complex problems
• Manage a matrixed team of 8–10 software engineers at varying experience levels
• Create architecture and design artifacts for complex components and platform capabilities
• Produce secure, high-quality production code and contribute to engineering best practices across the SDLC
• Design and implement near-real-time streaming and event-driven processing with technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, and Flink
