Senior Designer

A major national news and media brand is looking for a freelance Senior Designer to join the small creative team behind marketing for its Games product—recently expanded into its own app, with more work in the pipeline than the current team can cover. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor seat: no direct reports, but real ownership of campaigns across the funnel—paid, owned and earned, digital, social, email, in-app and some print. They want someone who thinks like a marketing designer first—idea-driven and funnel-aware—and brings serious craft: elevated motion, strong illustration instincts, confident typography and bold color. Agency-trained candidates are a strong fit. You Will: Concept and execute marketing campaigns for the Games product, from awareness through retention Design and adapt campaign creative across paid, owned and earned channels—digital, social, email, in-app, app stores and some out-of-home Turn in-product features and editorial formats into assets that build habitual engagement Build and maintain component libraries and style guides in Figma, with pixel-perfect execution across platforms Partner with writers, art directors and audio/video collaborators to concept, refine and ship creative end-to-end Develop scalable visual systems and templates that support fast experimentation without sacrificing craft You Have: 7+ years of hands-on design experience at an agency, studio or in-house team, with real depth in marketing/advertising creative—agency background is a plus A portfolio showing sharp execution and strong conceptual thinking across social, digital, email, in-app and print A refined, elevated aesthetic: strong typography, bold and confident color, and comfort with illustration and motion Expert-level Figma and Adobe Creative Suite skills, including building design systems used across a marketing org Motion graphics/animation experience (After Effects or similar) Experience partnering directly with product and dev teams to ship polished digital work Logistics: Duration: Temporary, approximately 6 months Onsite/offsite: NYC hybrid Team Structure: Reports to the ACD.
