Customer Engineer

A&R designs, manufactures, and supports high-precision automated systems for optical lens inspection, measurement, and process control. Role Overview As Customer Engineer, you will ensure the proper utilization of our automated control systems and measurement devices. You will serve as a technical expert and primary point of support for our customers across North America. This position is based out of our Germantown, WI office. Key Responsibilities Manage standard machine projects from installation through optimization Travel up to 50%, primarily across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, with occasional trips to Europe Ensure correct, optimized setup of machines and devices Analyze customer production data to align and integrate our systems Serve as a systems specialist for customers Lead and support customer training for production and engineering teams Train and support field service technicians Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and R&D on customizations and special tests Provide ongoing after-sales support and service Complete continuous-improvement training on new configurations and technologies Report defects, errors, and bugs to R&D Handle administrative responsibilities, including: Expense reports and reimbursements Travel planning within approved budgets (flights, hotels, rentals, etc.) Maintenance, installation, repair, and training reports Procedures, troubleshooting notes, and process documentation Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field required Technical Skills SQL, Power BI, and R language are a plus Ability to read schematics, drawings, and bills of materials Ability to troubleshoot automated systems (mechanical, electrical, and pneumatics) Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience working on machines preferred Knowledge of the ophthalmic industry and basic ophthalmic standards is a plus Basic TwinCAT programming knowledge is a plus Soft Skills Strong customer focus with a solutions-oriented mindset Willingness to travel up to 50%, primarily across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, with occasional trips to Europe Proven team player who collaborates effectively across departments Comfortable working in a continuously evolving organization with new technologies and challenges Autonomous and well-organized Eager to learn and develop new skills Values based on respect and trust Languages Fluent English (spoken and written) required Spanish, French, or Portuguese is a plus What We Offer Automation & Robotics Optical Machinery Inc. is the North American subsidiary of Automation & Robotics S.A.
