Sanitation Driver

Job Title: Sanitation Driver Location: 43 - Recycling & Sanitation, Cheyenne, WY 82001 Position Type: Full Time Salary Range: $45,036 to $63,049 annually General Job Description Perform sanitation collection services for commercial and residential accounts in the City of Cheyenne; deliver sanitation to designated sites; and perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities on sanitation heavy equipment, the transfer station, or throughout the city. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Perform and document daily pre‑trip inspections of assigned sanitation equipment. Operate and maintain rear‑load truck, front‑load truck, automated side‑load truck, roll‑off, semi‑truck or any other assigned sanitation collection truck. Deliver solid waste to the city transfer station or designated site. Ensure all assigned stops (routes or extra items) are collected on the assigned day. Perform minor maintenance activities on sanitation heavy equipment; clean sanitation equipment and maintain the dumpster yard. Maintain appropriate logs and records on collection and delivery activities. Perform work activities according to safe work practices and procedures. Clean and maintain all containment areas of the commercial route; pickup additional bags and boxes outside containment area and properly document for additional charges. Utilize FleetMind system daily (pre/post trips, assigned routes and stops, exceptions, or other use of FleetMind). Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Report safety concerns to the Transfer Station Manager and/or the Safety Coordinator. Wear designated PPE when required – hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe boots, safety glasses, and gloves. Sweep, clean, wash or collect solid waste around the City of Cheyenne or transfer station. Operate sanitation collection equipment. Report obstructions that impede operations to supervisor. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals contacted during work. Knowledge of principles and practices of sanitation collection. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices. Ability to perform sanitation services for commercial or residential accounts. Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, or local laws, regulations, or ordinances. Ability to deliver solid waste to the designated facility. Knowledge of city streets layout. Ability to perform minor maintenance activities on sanitation heavy equipment. Qualifications Required: High school diploma or GED. Commercial Driver License (CDL) or ability to obtain CDL within the first 3 months of hire and evidence of insurability. Preferred: Wyoming Class A or B Commercial Driver's License. One (1) year of increasing responsibility in sanitary services, including the collection and delivery of solid waste. Physical Requirements Regularly maintain effective audio‑visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. Maintain the physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity for sound decision‑making demonstrating intellectual capabilities. Working Environment Travel from site to site; field environment; exposure to noise, dust, smoke, fumes, gases, infectious materials, and inclement weather conditions; work around heavy sanitation equipment.
