Principal Engineer, Platform, Cloud Engineering and DevOps

About this role:Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer, Platform, Cloud Engineering and DevOps to serve as the senior technical leader responsible for the strategy, architecture, and evolution of enterprise cloud platforms, infrastructure SRE, Kubernetes/OpenShift, observability, and platform reliability. This role drives a reliability-first and automation-first approach, improving resiliency, scalability, operational excellence, and engineering efficiency through standardized platforms, self-service capabilities, and cloud-native engineering practices.Working closely with engineering, architecture, infrastructure, and security partners, the Principal Engineer influences enterprise technology strategy, platform modernization, and reliability initiatives while establishing engineering standards for cloud infrastructure, platform security, and container platforms. As a trusted advisor to leadership, this individual champions innovation, mentors senior engineers, and drives continuous improvement across the organization's cloud and platform engineering ecosystem.In this role, you will:Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groupsLead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinkingTranslate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutionsProvide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutionsMaintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organizationStrategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadershipRequired Qualifications:7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, DevSecOps, Infrastructure Engineering, SRE5+ years of experience designing and implementing CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and engineering automation solutions.5+ years of experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or comparable container platforms.5+ years of experience leading enterprise-scale platform modernization or cloud transformation initiatives.3+ years of experience defining engineering standards, architecture patterns, or platform strategies.3+ years of experience with software delivery, automation, security, and operational resiliency practices.3+ years of demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive engineering outcomes across large organizations.Desired Qualifications:Progressive experience in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or related technology disciplines within large-scale enterprise environments.Deep understanding of SRE principles, including SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, incident management, observability, resiliency engineering, disaster recovery, and operational excellence.Experience establishing enterprise standards and governance for platform operations, security, evergreen technology management, and engineering best practices across multiple organizations.Expertise in observability and monitoring platforms such as Splunk, AppDynamics, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar enterprise solutions.Proven ability to influence senior leaders, architects, and engineering organizations through technical leadership, strategic vision, and execution excellence.Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value.Industry certifications such as Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Red Hat OpenShift, Cloud Platform Certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP), SRE, or equivalent experience preferred.Job Expectations:This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorshipThis position offers a hybrid work scheduleMust be able to work on-site at any of the listed locationsRelocation assistance is not available for this positionJob Posting Locations:1525 W W T Harris Blvd., CHARLOTTE, North Carolina 28262401 Las Colinas Blvd W Bldg A, Irving, Texas 75039Posting End Date: 20 Oct 2026*Job posting may come down early due to volume of applicants.We Value Equal OpportunityWells Fargo is an equal opportunity employer.
