Registered Nurse - Clinical - Medical/Surgical

Job Summary The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient's hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines using a patient/customer‑driven approach. Job Responsibilities and Requirements Performs comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment, including age‑appropriate admission and post‑op assessments. Accurately documents findings and updates care plans based on assessment data, lab results, physician orders, and protocols. Establishes, coordinates, and evaluates a plan of care; identifies short‑ and long‑term goals and formulates interventions to achieve desired outcomes. Provides ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of care, patient/family education, and nursing interventions with documentation of changes and adjustments. Collaborates with the health‑team to coordinate daily plans of care, provides and communicates patient care, and completes accurate hand‑off reports. Administers medications, monitors IV fluids and parenteral nutrition, and documents all orders and responses per policies and procedures. Coordinates referrals, requests consultations, and provides patient/family education and discharge planning per guidelines. Clarifies and implements physician orders, assists physicians with procedures, and documents readbacks for all verbal orders. Recognizes changes in patient condition, takes appropriate nursing actions, and involves family or guardians in care and decision‑making. Incorporates infection control practices, monitors patient safety, and responds to incident reports or abuse assessments. Performs specialized care for patients at high risk for injury, including restraint care and pain management, following approved procedures. Supports professional development, demonstrates technical competency, maintains current policies, and participates in committees, shared governance, and unit‑based practice councils. Provides orientation and mentorship to new employees, supervises students or new staff nurses, and assumes leadership in clinical settings. Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment; follows hand hygiene, safe patient handling, and dress‑code standards. Completes annual mandatory training and certifications: license, BLS, HI, TB screening, influenza vaccination, Ethics, Safety, Abuse & Neglect, Blood‑borne pathogens, and other required courses. Provides cost‑effective services, utilizes resources efficiently, and participates in performance‑improvement activities to enhance efficiency and reduce waste. Demonstrates empathy, respect, and professionalism toward colleagues, patients, and families, following hospital principles and AIDET communication. Actively participates in unit‐based and hospital performance improvement processes and contributes to nursing research and quality indicators. Provides age‑appropriate care for adults and geriatric patients, applying knowledge of normal growth, development, and communication skills. Job Specifications Minimum Education: Licensed to work as an RN in Missouri. Working Conditions: Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, unpredictable situations, emergency and crisis situations, and irregular hours. Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing/walking, lifting/positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
