Customer Service Representative

This position is with the Olivenhain Municipal Water District. The salary range is $59,363.20 - $82,971.20 annually. The main office is located in Encinitas, CA. The job type is full-time and is within the Customer Services department under the Customer Service & Public Affairs division. The position is non-exempt.

The detailed duties and responsibilities include:

• Performs general administrative support tasks such as answering calls, processing payments, managing mail, maintaining office supplies, preparing forms and documents, and participating in training events.
• Directly interacts with customers to assist with questions and issues regarding district services, troubleshoots issues, coordinates with other personnel, notifies customers of service interruptions, and updates billing information.
• Performs billing activities including preparing bills, reviewing billing reports, resolving customer billing problems, monitoring past due accounts, and processing refunds.
• Performs all related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualification requirements include:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Standard First Aid and CPR certifications are required.
• For Customer Service Representative I: Minimum of one year of experience responding to customer inquiries within a customer service environment; excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to organize and manage competing priorities; comprehensive ability to effectively utilize a personal computer and Windows applications. Ability to constructively deal with conflict and provide effective resolutions.
• For Customer Service Representative II: Minimum of three years of experience responding to customer inquiries within a customer service environment; excellent communication and verbal skills, proven ability to organize and manage competing priorities; comprehensive ability to effectively utilize a personal computer and Windows applications. Positions at this level are distinguished by the performance of the full range of duties assigned, working independently, applying well-developed customer service knowledge, coordinating coverage during breaks, coordinating daily tasks, and exercising judgment and initiative. Ability to achieve a State of California Water Distribution Operator Level 1 certification after appointment is desirable.

Supplemental information includes:

• Internal contact with supervisor, district personnel, and external contact with customers and other public agencies.
• Physical requirements include good hearing, eyesight, and speech; ability to operate a computer keyboard and peripherals; ability to tolerate periods of continuous sitting; infrequent assistance with lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Environmental conditions include work primarily performed within an enclosed office setting with standard background noise and exposure to computer screen. When performing work outside the facility, subject to variable weather conditions and possible exposure to heavy equipment, dust, fumes, odor, and noise. Appropriate personal safety equipment is provided.
