Recreation Assistant

Recreation Assistant The Recreation Assistant serves as the onsite supervisor for the Before & After School Program and Summer Camp. The role involves creating a safe, positive, engaging and enriching environment through planning and implementing a daily schedule of activities, supervising staff, assigning duties, and providing performance feedback. The Assistant maintains facility cleanliness and equipment/supply inventory, collects and reviews all participant paperwork, utilizes appropriate behavior management techniques, and communicates effectively with participants, staff, parents, and the Supervisor. General office duties include answering phones, processing registrations and payments, and marketing and promotion of programs and events. Candidates must have prior childcare or camp experience, CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification. This is a full‑time position (37 hours) with the majority of the hours in direct delivery of programs. School Year Hours are 10am – 6pm and Summer Camp Hours are 9:00am – 5:00pm. Salary range for the position is $19.89 – $25.97 per hour, plus health benefits, generous holiday/vacation/sick time. Qualifications Education & Experience : Graduation from a recognized high school or completion of a GED. Meet the state of Connecticut Camp Director age requirement (21+). Experience in childcare/summer camp. First Aid/CPR certification. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : General knowledge of childcare policies and behavioral management techniques. Ability to actively engage program participants and provide program management. Ability to be on site during program hours of operation. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders and the general public; also ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Special Requirements Valid state driver’s license. Must pass a State of Connecticut background check.
