Excavator Operator

Position Summary: An Excavator Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery to perform tasks such as digging, grading, trenching, and moving earth or materials on construction sites. Responsibilities: Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures, including reporting all accidents, incidents, and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value – Safety, first in everything we do. Responsible for safe and technically proficient operation of equipment assigned. Complete equipment condition reports and daily checklists of tasks through the Middlesex Application. Clean the machines daily, including sweeping cabs, removing trash, and lubricating doors and windows bi-weekly. Understand and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures. Be aware of utility locations within the work zone. Be responsible for your own safety and those working nearby. Inform your Superintendent or Foreman daily about equipment fuel status to ensure proper scheduling for refueling. Communicate equipment supply needs, such as grease, oil, rags, cleaning supplies, or the necessity for steam cleaning. Perform beginning and end-of-shift equipment inspections. Demonstrate proper techniques for grade pulling, trench excavation, and loading/unloading excavators from transport trucks. Utilize lifting devices, such as cables, chains, straps, and demonstrate the ability to lift and set various pipes, headwalls, and structures. Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED Certificate. 3-5 years of operator experience in heavy/civil construction. OSHA 10 Certified. Valid Driver License. Necessary Attributes: Must possess the ability to adapt to different personalities and management styles. Commitment to safety, quality, and integrity-oriented with strong professional work ethics. Capability to identify and discuss all safety interlocks, alarms, and shutdowns on machinery. Proficiency in excavating to grade using both GPS and grade stakes. Ability to control, position, and load trucks efficiently. Demonstrate lifting, setting, and securing procedures for various materials and structures, including pipes (DIP, C-900, RCP, ERCP, CMP, SDR, ADS), headwalls, and structural components. Strong focus on quality and attention to detail while maintaining professionalism.
