General Surgeon (Assistant/Associate Professor) Job Class Code: 10031 FLSA: Exempt Posting Number: FRGV1816 Location: Edinburg, Texas Division/Organization: Division of Health Affairs Appointment Period for Non‑Tenure Position: 1 year Tenure Status: Non Tenure Track FTE: 1.0 Scope of Job The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine (UTRGVSOM) seeks a Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon for a non‑tenure track appointment in the Department of Surgery. The position is full time with the UTRGV SOM General Surgery residency program. Responsibilities Practice general surgery in hospital and outpatient settings throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Supervise and teach medical students and residents. Maintain competency in DaVinci robotic surgery and bariatric surgery (preferred). Minimum Qualifications MD degree with Board Certification in General Surgery or Board Eligible status. Completion of an ACGME residency program. Eligibility for a Texas Medical License. Preferred Qualifications DaVinci robotic surgery certification. Bariatric surgery competency. Salary Commensurate with qualifications and experience. License or Certification Required Yes. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. The position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
